Nonprofit organizations in numbers In most countries of Central and Eastern Europe, nonprofit organizations are a key partner of public administration in the implementation of the state's social policy. Their stable development is crucial, because their efficient operation translates directly into the pace and quality of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Currently, over 800,000 organizations are registered in the region, but many of them operate on a very small scale, with very low budgets, or are registered but not active at all. Here are the numbers of registered nonprofit organizations in 11 CEE countries. In the nonprofit sector, organizations are increasingly joining forces to tackle complex social issues. There is evident need to confront mindsets and change how we have engaged with communities and implementing agencies for many years. The need for systems change to make access to funding easier; the need to engage communities for ownership; the need to scale what works and design to work at scale; the neee to look at alternative ways of funding… and the need to allow organisations to take risks, learn and redesign for impact!
