Pinch me! As a marketing geek, I was absolutely thrilled to host a fireside chat with Sir Martin Sorrell at our office last week. Our conversation explored the vast potential of AI across industries, particularly advertising, and the need for practitioners and management across brands and agencies to geek out more. His quote - 'Turkeys don't vote for Christmas' resonated. Because like it or not, technology is not done revolutionising the marcomms industry, and what's needed is more geeks and being more tech minded. Sir Martin asked the room to be more agile - and pushed more radical thinking in our spheres. But reminded us as well that 'AI is only as good as the people behind it'. Within teams: we must shift mindsets towards AI experimentation and innovation, build capabilities, and create programs and initiatives that encourage teams to take action. Sir Martin’s insights were invaluable. A few more key takeaways: 🧑💼 Embrace Fluidity as we are at an inflection point in 2024: The rapid adoption of generative AI, evolving macroeconomic landscape, and the shift toward a cookieless future online are driving companies to rapidly shift their focus from understanding AI foundations to actively implementing AI for competitive advantage. 📈Early adopters and the 3 top use cases: Marketers who adopted AI early find AI-use cases in measurement insights, media and performance optimisation, and creative and content creation. 👍 Optimism with Responsibility: Being Bold on AI Means Being Responsible from the Start.
