2023 was a busy year of innovative and entrepreneurial activity across the UCC campus. Creating an innovation culture and entrepreneurial campus is a core objective of our institutional strategy ‘Securing our Future – UCC Strategic Plan 2023-2028’, and UCC Innovation is proud to reflect on a successful year. UCC Innovation’s Impact Report 2023 highlights the achievements of UCC researchers as they work to develop economic and societal impact from their expertise, research and creativity. Today I popped into the office of ZCCE Zurich Centre for Creative Economies and found the freshly printed edition of the CIRCE - Creative Impact Research Centre Europe Report. 1 year, 5 research labs, 13 impact projects, 40 young fellows across Europe in 180 pages of final report (link to the digital edition in comments). It was a blast being project lead of the Zurich research lab. Together with our researcher we kept exploring entrepreneurial strategies within the #creativeeconomies. Three main findings crystallised in all our studies: 🎯 we don't need four-year strategy plans, we need continuous strategy processes. 🧨 We don't need ex ante definitions of results, but rather high-risk projects. 🎒 We don't need a narrow understanding of resources in terms of financial means, but a holistic view that includes values, governance and stakeholders. Even though the project has come to an end, many of these ideas are being further developed in the For Planet Strategy Lab – not only with the creative economies but with all organizations. #creativeeconomies #entrepreneurialstrategies #creativeimpact ZHdK Zürcher Hochschule der Künste PS: Credits to my co-founder and friend Samuel Huber for (maybe) having an impact on the report title, as he was part of our research lab and wrote his dissertation not about Prototyping Collaboration, but Prototyping Strategies 😎

It’s exciting to see my friend, Hon'able Lagen David Atuka, experience Woxsen University. The press for innovation and global connections help set this university apart from so many others in India. He said this better than I ever could, so it is worth taking a few minutes to watch this video. #highereducationleadership #newagelearning #globalimpact #futureyou

A new ecosystem for research innovation, commercialization, and education: Universities cannot drive innovation alone, and future-facing innovation initiatives must include facilities and spaces for entrepreneurs, start-ups, spin-offs, and education and healthcare partners. At the University Science and Engineering Facilities 2023 conference on October 2-3 in Austin, Texas, David C. Schulz, AIA, PP, AUA and Laura Berman profile how the new Rutgers University HELIX building re-examines the role of a university in a host city by moving education and research functions off-campus, locating in a new building downtown, and intertwining students, researchers, and physician scientists with private industry and start-ups. They scope out criteria for when off-campus is the right answer, new planning concepts for collaboration, design concepts that integrate multipurpose use and adaptability, and the novel opportunities created. Professor & Chairholder, Stiftungsfonds Deutsche Bank Chair of Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship at HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management
THE CHALLENGES OF MANAGING INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY IN LARGE COMPLEX TECHNOLOGICAL ORGANIZATIONS Congratulations to Dr. Punyapat Saksupapchon who successfully defended her doctoral dissertation this week at the HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management. Her doctoral research, on the topic of "The Strategic Intellectual Property Management of New Products in Complex Technological Organizations," was conducted in the Stiftungsfonds Deutsche Bank Chair of Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship, under the supervision of Prof. Kelvin Willoughby. Through a study of innovation in the commercial aircraft industry, covering a period of over two decades, Dr. Saksupapchon investigated how the coevolution of intellectual property (IP) management capabilities and technology development capabilities may assist globally active complex technology organizations to build competitive advantage through the development of new systems and products. As part of her research she also developed a method for dynamically mapping and monitoring the development of corporate IP management capabilities, and a practical tool for helping managers to design contractual agreements governing the management of IP in collaborative technology projects. Best wishes to Punyapat Saksupapchon as she applies her profound learnings from her doctoral studies at HHL to her professional career. #intellectualproperty #ip #ipmanagement #intellectualpropertymanagement #dynamiccapabilities #technologicalinnovation #aerospaceinnovation #coevolution #innovation

Climate Action Champion Professor; Fellow—the National Academy of Inventors; Fellow—the Frontier National Academy of Engineering; Fellow—the American Association of University Women;
In the latest edition of T&I, my colleagues and I (FNAI) present a compelling argument for the necessity of active engagement throughout the entire spectrum of the innovation ecosystem to unlock the full potential of creativity and innovation. We advocate for creating synergistic platforms that bring together the administration, faculty, students, and industry. The discourse highlights the foundational elements of innovation and stresses the indispensable role of faculty members and technology transfer offices. It also recognizes the substantial impact of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in cultivating sustainable innovations that resonate with a broad spectrum of society and drive substantial change. ► Read the full article here: https://ow.ly/7S8B50QpCIq ► See the full issue: https://ow.ly/CzsX50QpCIP
