The Global Innovation Index is out. The 25 S&T clusters measured by the #publications and #patents per capita are provided below. Absolutely surprised to see Boston #5 behind Eindhoven, Oxford, Cambridge and SanJose. The Biotech cluster in Kendall Square in Boston is one of the most innovative clusters on the planet, home to the likes of Moderna, pointing to both #publications and #patents as poor measures of intensity. MIT alone has had 26000 startups, worth a couple of Trillion dollars. Ninety Nine percent of patents are worthless, while the less said the better about publications. A notable omission from the list is Australia. Surprised as these are the two (#publications through citations and #patents) most important KPIs for universities and the ARC. #Innovation #commercialization #patents #publications

This fosters global interconnectedness and rapid idea exchange. The focus is  on #sustainableinnovation, improving ecological, economic, and social performance. #Government then regulates markets and funds research and development (R&D).
