America's Past, Present, and Future Engagement in the World The America in the World Consortium invites paper proposals from Ph.D. students, early-career scholars, and early-career policy practitioners for a one-day conference in March 2024 on the multifaceted dimensions of U.S. engagement with the world, spanning historical origins, modern challenges, and future trajectories. These are very interesting findings, well done Savo Heleta et al., for this such an interesting findings. My commentary are just prematurely for now, as I have not read the entire paper, but it would be interesting to know which research themes our local university and their partner institutions in various continents collaborate on and whether this trends is likely to change on the next 10 years, especially in light of multiple global changes such as among others climate change, food security and stability and peace. Well done, again, I will have a read of this research paper.

The Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance this is an interesting paper.

In a recent University World News article, Rebecca Schendel argues that while the expansion of higher education systems globally presents exciting opportunities for broadening perspectives, established power imbalances along with the echo chamber effects of social media often hinder this intellectual diversification. https://lnkd.in/dJ2apeEy As Schendel highlights in this interview, the proliferation of robust domestic higher education research programs worldwide provides pivotal local viewpoints. Today, we were honoured to host Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, Head of the Higher Education Unit at the European Commission at the Hertie School in #Berlin. In collaboration with representatives from three other prestigious universities and EU alliances in Berlin, we delved into the future of the #EuropeanDegree and the #EuropeanUniversityInitiative. Discussion highlights: 🎓 The #EuropeanDegree is a game-changer for students and doctoral candidates. With a new blueprint from the European Commission, our alliances are actively addressing both internal and external challenges to make it a reality for all our communities. 🌐 Since the inception of the #EuropeanUniversityInitiative, there have been extensive exchanges among universities and with national and local authorities on removing barriers to transnational degree programmes and education. Let’s continue our collective efforts to transform #HigherEducation across Europe for the benefit of all. Last week the School celebrated its 30th anniversary at a special celebration attended by the University's Chancellor, HRH The Princess Royal. Speaking of the role the School has played in supporting and championing humanities research, as well as looking to the future, Professor Jo Fox, Dean of the School, said: “The world has changed a great deal since the School was formed in 1994 […] And while our world may be more connected than ever before, it is also a more divided, more fraught, and in many ways, a more precarious one.    “A critical, creative, and human approach is not only valuable in addressing [these] global challenges – it is indispensable. The humanities offer not only diagnoses, but increasingly we offer solutions. We see this every day in the research we support across the UK. “We will continue to champion and provide a home for groundbreaking research, strengthen our local and international partnerships, widen participation across our disciplines, and further the cause of humanities to understand ourselves and each other.     “In doing so we will equip future generations with the skills to answer the most pressing issues of today and tomorrow.” https://lnkd.in/dEB2GTqv
