Do Academic Institutions Prepare Students For The Real World❔ From my own experience as founder of Buckingham Futures, I have found that the extent to which academic institutions prepare students for the real world can vary widely and depends on various factors, including: 1️⃣ The specific institution. 2️⃣ The chosen field of study. 3️⃣ Individual student experiences. It is important to note that the responsibility for preparation also lies with students. Actively seeking #internships, #networking, and taking advantage of available resources can enhance the real-world readiness that academic institutions provide. Thank you Authentic Authority for the feature. 🙏❤️ Click on the link in the comments to read the full article.

Meet Nicole Palacios, a pre-med Health Science major at the University of Miami! She is one of the students who performed a Virtual Research Internship project at Universidad Austral, Buenos Aires. This is her testimony: “I applied for a HUC internship over the summer and was matched with Professor Victoria Bein for the topic of parenting stress. We discussed and analyzed various measures of parenting stress, and how child behavior affected these stress levels. My favorite part of this project was how I was able to work in both English and Spanish with students across different countries to translate stress measures. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and recommend it to anyone looking for a valuable research experience. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions! Virtual research internships are an excellent opportunity to foster scientific collaboration and international academic experiences. The Hemispheric University Consortium (HUC) provides an ideal platform to connect professors, researchers, and students from HUC universities across the continent. MEDIA NOTE July 19, 2023 Wanted: Virtual Student Federal Service Student Interns for 2023-24 Academic Year The U.S. Department of State is proud to announce that the Virtual Student Federal Service Student (VSFS) application process is now open to all eligible students at www.vsfs.state.gov. U.S. citizens enrolled in higher educational institutions can apply as a virtual intern for one of 2,274 opportunities across nearly 470 projects in over 40 federal agencies. The application deadline is July 28, 2023. Developed by the Bureau of Information Resource Management (IRM), the Virtual Student Federal Service intern program continues to be an exceptional platform for fostering innovation and recruiting the next generation of talent. The program provides both valuable professional experience and nurtures the next generation of leaders and problem solvers. The VSFS also provides an innovative, inclusive and accessible internship platform to students who might not otherwise be able to participate in an in-person federal service internship. For the 2022-23 academic year, 1,500 students were selected from a highly competitive pool of 7,000 applicants, representing a wide range of academic disciplines and backgrounds. Students collaborated with 43 federal agencies completing more than 500 projects, including data analysis, research, social media management, graphic design, and IT strategy. The VSFS program, established in 2009 by the State Department’s IRM Office of eDiplomacy, connects talented and motivated students to U.S. federal government agencies to make a positive impact and gain experience. The program's virtual nature enables students from across the country to participate, regardless of their location, fostering diversity and inclusivity and introducing students to public service. Established in 1789, the U.S. Department of State is the oldest U.S. cabinet agency whose mission is to protect and promote U.S. security, prosperity, and democratic values. #researchinternship Just managed to secure the research grants for 2 Master's research students. The schemes offer high-calibre students a fantastic opportunity to undertake a piece of research with academic guidance. The aim is to create enthusiasm for research amongst our students, whilst also producing outputs which will benefit staff. As a reminder, the internships are primarily for the development or benefit of the student. We encourage all students to contribute to a co-authored publication where appropriate. We will also be asking students to produce a poster at the end of their research for hosting on our ARU website. Just to be clear – they need to be an FT student at ARU whose registration exceeds beyond the placement (31st July) and they cannot have taken part in the scheme before (either an extended or summer internship or with another faculty). Any student on a Visa will need to adhere to any working restrictions written on their visa. Please note that for all types of placements, the following apply: . All students receive a tax-free stipend at the same rate of £84 per day (this stipend is an increase on previous rates of £76.30 per day and reflects the National Living Wage). . There are no additional funds available for research expenses. . Students who have already undertaken an internship will not be permitted to take another. . Any international students recruited will only be allowed to take up an internship which does not contravene visa conditions. . Placement lengths are again six weeks/30 days this year. Placement types: For extended internships, there are two options. Full-time will be 30 days spread across the remainder of the academic year, starting from January, or there is a part-time option of 15 days. Payment for 30 days will be £84 per day, £2520 for 30 days or £1260 for 15 days. For summer internships, there are several different placement types available: • There are a limited number of part-time internships available for master's students. These will run for 2.5 days per week for 6 weeks (£210 per week). Please note that we can only accept students doing master’s courses over 2 years. The advert-

Lecturer | Media and Communications | Media Liaising | Stakeholder and Project Management | Advocacy
My first month of lecturing is done and dusted and what an amazing experience it has been so far! Not only am I able to share my love for communication science and public relations with the next generation but I am also endulging my passion for youth development by assisting final year students with internships and preparing them for the working world. They say that teaching is a rewarding job and although it's been only one month, I agree with that statement. #lecturing #CommunicationScience #PublicRelations #Internships #TertiaryEducation

Head of Research Culture and Researcher Development at University of Glasgow and Co-Director of the Lab for Academic Culture
Colleagues Rachel Eager and Karen Gordon reflect on their learning through their (nearly complete) PGR internships - using Dely Lazarte Elliot et al's (2020) REPAIRS model - demonstrating learning through the Hidden Curriculum. This is a great read, and shows both the obvious and tacit value of internships, and the advantages, and tensions, as experienced in practice. #HiddenCurriculum #researcherdevelopment #doctoral #education #internships https://lnkd.in/eUCSMQib
