✨ Exciting News! ✨ We are thrilled to announce that InnoFlex has been awarded a significant grant as part of the EFRO 2021-2027 OPZuid program by the EU and Stimulus Programmamanagement to launch project AMBER. AMBER, which stands for 'Ammoniakuitstoot Beter Reduceren', aims to drastically reduce ammonia emissions in livestock farming. 🌍 Why AMBER? Livestock ammonia emissions are a pressing environmental challenge, impacting not only air quality but also biodiversity and public health. With AMBER, we aim to tackle this issue head-on by developing advanced technology to reduce and monitor ammonia emissions efficiently. ⚙️ Innovative Pollution Reduction Tech We will leverage our know-how in nanomaterials to develop, test and implement a system that can break down ammonia and other pollutants into harmless compounds using photocatalysis. Low energy use, no chemicals and little maintenance are some of the features that will make the system an attractive alternative to current solutions. 🤝 Collaboration for Impact The project is a collaborative effort involving VTEC LASERS & SENSORS LTD. and Spectrik. VTEC will develop a photonic chip to accurately and cost-effectively measure ammonia emissions. Spectrik will play a crucial role in developing the product and system design around the photonic chip, ensuring its seamless integration into our solution. This system is not only a step forward in emissions reduction but also in ensuring compliance with future regulations through accurate measurements. 💡Far Reaching Potential AMBER is set to not only benefit farmers in the Netherlands and the EU but offers to be a sustainable solution to a problem faced by livestock farmers worldwide and could further be applied to target other pollutants from various industries. This technology has the potential to revolutionize the aquaculture industry by providing continuous testing of flowing water, reducing the financial burden on aquaculture companies, and substantially reducing the potential impact on fish health, which is crucial for the industry’s sustainability. The compatibility of Waterson’s technology with sensors from different manufacturers can make it adaptable for different aquaculture industry environments, such as inland and offshore fish farming. The development of this technology progressed through various Technology Readiness Levels, from TRL1, where literature studies were conducted, to TRL5, where the technology was validated in an artificial environment. Our planned activities include identifying specific sensor types and manufacturers, evaluating the suitability of current sensors, designing and assembling a new prototype, collecting experimental data, developing anomaly algorithms, evaluating readings, enhancing algorithm operations, and testing them in a relevant environment. Traditional crop registration methods often fall short of accurately representing the complexity of greenhouse environments. Our research has revealed significant discrepancies between manual practices and real-world applications, with critical areas like gables and microclimates frequently overlooked. Surprisingly, over half of the greenhouse area is typically avoided for sampling, raising questions about the effectiveness of the current approach. In response, we're championing a shift in crop registration. By embracing technologies and reimagining sampling methodologies, we can unlock a wealth of comprehensive insights into plant balance and health.
