I met Stavros Korokithakis as the organizer of the PyThess meetup. He's one of the most capable technical people I've ever met, and I take his views on technology very seriously. 💽 During one of our discussions, I asked him his opinion about the data store I must pick for my startup. His answer was straightforward: "Go with SQLite if you are building a pet project or something for a few users. If you are sure you will have many users and are building something commercial, you should go with PostgreSQL". Of course, I wasn't happy with his answer, so I mumbled something about scalability, millions of users, and the importance of NoSQL databases. "One of the most common mistakes startups make is selecting the data store. I wrote an article 8 years ago explaining why going with a NoSQL is a big mistake in 99% of cases." https://lnkd.in/dfAqMBEv 👉 If you are considering selecting a NoSQL data store (like MongoDB) for your next business idea, do yourself a favor and read the following article. Spoiler: Don't use MongoDB. But why? Why? - You are building your data foundation, and the data warehouse will be able to scale with you. You won't need to migrate your data when you want to work on more data-intensive projects. - The starting cost for the data warehouse is low.
