Approximately 40 percent of unexpected downtimes can be attributed to cooling system issues. When overheating problems occur, they tend to propagate throughout the engine. Modern engines operate at higher under hood temperatures than ever, making it imperative for cooling systems to function at their best. It is crucial to prioritize the inspection of belts, including idler pulleys, hoses, and coolant protection levels. Age plays a significant role when evaluating the condition of belts and hoses. Since hoses deteriorate from the inside, relying solely on visual inspection might not always identify a failing hose. To prevent potential issues, it is recommended to proactively replace belts and hoses that are five years or older. Another critical aspect is ensuring that radiator screens remain clear of debris that could obstruct proper airflow. By following these preventive maintenance practices, the risk of cooling system-related problems can be significantly reduced. FleetNet America’s TMcare® managed maintenance program prioritizes the inspection of parts and systems that struggle in extreme heat. When unexpected problems do occur, FleetNet’s Roadside program gets you back on the road fast. With the right plan in place, it’s possible to dramatically reduce the chances of sitting on the side of the road waiting for assistance. Every vehicle. Every Service. It might be hot out, but let's pay some attention to our diesel engine and bunk heaters. Sure, this isn't the time of the year that these things get a lot of use. However, they still deserve some consideration in their off season from a preventative maintenance point of view. Devices like this have somewhat of a "use it or lose it" dynamic. Without being regularly used, the fuel in their lines can degrade and cause blockages and the gumming up of key components. If these lines get blocked, performance will either decrease or they'll stop working totally. So, consult the manufacturer's directions for your specific heaters to see what they recommend for routine maintenance. With that disclaimer in mind, most of these units benefit from being operated at least once a month to keep their internal components operational. For the engine heater, the best time to do this is before the vehicle is needed. Even in the warm weather, there's no harm in pre-heating a diesel engine. For the bunk heater, the best time to do this will be at a time when no one has to be in the vehicle since it will add a lot of heat to the cab. Be sure to have ventilation at the same time (a best practice at all times, even in the winter, to reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning). These heaters often have timers and even remote controls. This is also a good time to test these features to make sure these items are good to go at all times. And finally, keep in mind the conditioning of the fuel for those who operate in cold weather. If the heaters are full of summer diesel and not cycled through with winter-treated fuel, they may be nonfunctionable in the cold when they're really needed. --- #safety #fleetsafetymanagement #fleetmaintenancemanagement #trucking #busing Alberta Motor Transport Association BC Trucking Association Saskatchewan Trucking Association Manitoba Trucking Association Ontario Trucking Association Association du camionnage du Québec (ACQ) Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association (APTA) Canadian Trucking Alliance

💫 Quick tip ... They don't stay this clean for long! ✅ Make sure in your maintenance inspections and walk-throughs that your folks are cleaning the cooling fins on the outside of the motor. ✅ Also, don't forget to check the air intake by the cooling fan. A safe and easy way to make sure air is getting to the motor is to hold a sheet of paper to the fan cover. If it holds, you're getting air. Without proper cooling, your motor will not last! #electricmotor #motormaintenance

🚗💨 Stay Cool: Understanding Your Car's Air Conditioning System! 💨🚗 Did you know your car's AC system does more than just blast cool air on a hot day? Here's a quick breakdown: 1️. Compressor: This powerhouse squeezes refrigerant, turning it into a high-pressure gas. 2️. Condenser: Your car's radiator for AC, it cools and condenses the refrigerant gas into a liquid. 3. Expansion Valve: This nifty gadget regulates the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator. 4️. Evaporator: Situated inside your car, it absorbs heat and moisture, cooling the air before it blows out. 🔧 Regular maintenance ensures your AC runs smoothly.
