Reviewing is crucial for personal and professional growth, a core practice deeply engrained in all aspects at MB. Analyzing experiences—be it work projects, academics, or personal interactions—provides invaluable insights. Examining successes and identifying areas for improvement deepens our grasp of strengths and weaknesses. Self-reflection creates informed decision-making and problem-solving, enhancing subsequent endeavors. When we engage in dialogues with peers and mentors, we are able to integrate diverse viewpoints and collective experiences, to act as a catalyst for gaining insights that may elude our individual perception and judgement. Learning from reviewing changes experience into wisdom. It's this ongoing process that empowers adaptation, growth, and the continual enhancement of capabilities. Whether in academia, professional pursuits, or personal development, integrating thoughtful reviewing becomes as a pivotal driver of success and perpetual self-improvement.

AIA Chicago asked me to write about the current state of high-rise building in Chicago and what the future holds for skyscrapers in a work-from-home era. I had thoughts but also talked to several practitioners to see where things stand. Growth is a good thing

“Shrinking Yourself is about removing ego, letting go of authority and forgetting the timelines. It is about embracing fluidity and being uncomfortable when we have been trained to be linear and assured. The removal of us as ‘designer’ allowed for the process, site and community to be the designers. Some of the armour that protects us as architects (Gant charts, resourcing and budget) was shed, yet our design time remained the same. Months were spent talking, gaining trust, listening, and learning. Shrinking ourselves drove us into a larger profession of compassion and community. Some highlights from Session 5: Architect as Integrator Thomas Gluck discussed the integrative approach to design and construction at GLUCK+ , an architecture and construction firm based in New York City. Mr. Gluck discussed the opportunities and challenges of the architect led design-build model. By creating a longer period of overlap between design and construction, architects and building trades are able to collaborate early in the project to derive innovative solutions. GLUCK+’s portfolio includes many educational and institutional projects in Harlem, Queens, and the Bronx.
