Why are we losing our Christmas tradition?
For generations, the traditional #BritishChristmasDinner has remained remarkably consistent – a platter of turkey, sprouts, gravy, roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips, stuffing, and pigs in blankets. While families might add their own personal touches, the core elements have remained remarkably stable.
However, this year, a culinary revolution is brewing among younger generations, spearheaded by #GenZ and #GenY. A report by Tesco reveals that a significant portion of these younger generations, with less than half opting for the classic #gravy accompaniment. Instead, they're embracing a more diverse range of sauces, with ketchup emerging as a surprisingly popular choice among Gen Zers and Gen Yers.
The dietary choices of younger generations are often driven by #health and #sustainability concerns. This has led to a growing demand for #plantbased alternatives, with 43% of Gen Z indicating they won't be eating #meat at Christmas.
Gen Zers and Yers are boldly rejecting tradition in favour of pursuing what they want. Just 8% of those aged 18-34 will be eating a traditional #Christmaspudding this year. Instead, they’re going for the culinary joy of chocolate puddings, cheesecake, and ice cream instead of the traditional #dessert.
All of that adds up to a #ChristmasDay that looks different compared to just a few years ago – but what does that mean for #brands? Check out Marianne Eloise’s fascinating report on ‘How Gen Z and Y are subverting the traditional Xmas dinner’ here.
