It’s so important to have outlets outside of work that give you purpose. 90% of the things you read on here about success stories. What you don’t see a lot of are the adversities that all of us deal with mixed in with the success. Last week - I got a larger deal torpedoed that myself, my leadership were all excited for. The end of deal curveball was out of my control, it was a major gut punch, and probably puts my Quarter in jeapordy. No lies to be told - I legit needed 24-48 hours to get over it. I’m a human. I care about my performance. And I needed to give myself some grace. How did I rebound quickly mentally? To begin my year, one of the goals I wrote down was to run a 10k faster than I ever have in my life at age 34. (The goal: sub 40 minutes) My training for this is 100% in my control. My progression is all up to me and relies on nobody else. Sharing a photo from earlier this week on one of my training runs that showed myself the progress I’ve made and that gives me a whole lot of confidence I’m going to achieve my goal in 2 weeks when it’s racing time. A really great feeling that masks the frustration I had work wise earlier in the week. Quite the remedy to balance myself out emotionally. Moral of story: absolutely do not let work define who you are. Take pride in what you do, take pride in giving your best - but find other outlets in your life that show yourself your best is more than enough.
Wow, 6:40 avg mile?! Nice job!! Pretty sure you'll crush your "under 40mins" goal 👊
Love seeing this as I prep to go on a lunch time run myself!
That's beach volleyball for me... something to look forward to each week.
