What a densely packed couple of days it’s been at the Global Fashion Summit - Global Fashion Agenda in Copenhagen. Here are some of the areas covered in the panel discussion and talks: - Systems Change: It Starts With Ourselves - The Preferred Fibre Face-Off - Enabling Efficiency and Sustainability Through Traceability - Design With Intent: From Inspiration to Collaboration - Unlocking Global Collaboration - Tackling Transparency: From Farms to Fabric - Fragmented Futures: Fashion’s Policy Agenda - Lead or be Led - Future Fibers: Enabling the Circular Model Thanks to Nicole Rycroft, Sophie Mather, António de Sousa Maia, Christine Goulay, Paul Polman and Ryan Gellert for delivering inspiring and insightful discussions We already know what needs to be done, we have done the research and collected the data. Now we have to act on this. We need to stop talking and start doing. As Edwin Keh put it: version 1.0 may not turn out perfect, it may be messy but at this stage action trumps perfection. We are all like mice that have decided that putting a bell on the cat is a good idea, we now need to work out how to do it! Systemic change needs to be driven from the inside out as well as from the outside in through legislation. Every individual, organisation and company has the power to make a change and to improve existing inefficiencies. We must start to give back more than we take. Profits and purpose have to align. What will you do today towards a net positive future? #GlobalFashionSummit #epr #espr #esg #netpositive

I've observed an industry divide as the EU and USA roll out new sustainability legislation. On one side, some companies genuinely embrace the challenge, gearing up to redefine the responsible fashion business. On the other, pursuing profit overshadows the urgency for environmental and social governance. Fellow sustainability professionals, what's your take on the mood at the C-level? Are we seeing a genuine commitment to adapt and innovate, or is there a scramble for loopholes and easy exits? Let's discuss the real sentiment behind closed doors and share insights on moving towards a sustainable future together. #Sustainability #FashionIndustry #CorporateResponsibility #EUlegislation

For everyone working in sustainability with fashion and industry wide survey to complete
Calling all sustainability folk in the fashion sector - either in brand or working with brands - the third annual Vogue Business Sustainability Leaders Survey needs your input. This is intended as an anonymous, crowdsourced, 360-degree piece of feedback on sustainability within the sector. Questions focus on the key barriers to progress, but also which investments, infrastructures and partnerships have driven the most change. The aim is to create a shared roadmap to empower and enable sustainability teams, to maximise their chances of success, and to help the industry move towards its ambitious sustainability goals. Rather than just being the about hearing from the most senior sustainability employee in fashion brands, this year the survey is extending to those working from a relevant third-party perspective (e.g. certifications, consultants, change agencies, NGOs and industry bodies). The survey is open until this Sunday, June 16, and can be accessed here: https://lnkd.in/eTQMH3ib #sustainability #sustainablefashion #change

Chief Strategy Officer & Co-Founder of Leaders on Purpose | Advisory, Space4Girls l Forbes Top 11 Purposeful Leaders - Women Positively And Inspiringly Impacting The World l Shortlisted Thinkers 50.
Anticipating with great excitement, I am looking forward to the forthcoming 6th edition of the Annual Leaders on Purpose CEO Summit, scheduled for September 20-21, 2023. One of the sessions that I am personally excited about is "The Future of Fashion: Crafting Sustainable Business Models." 🌍 The fashion industry, renowned for its ingenuity, is now at a pivotal juncture, urgently requiring substantive changes to embrace sustainability. Esteemed leaders, experts, and stakeholders from the industry will convene to deliberate on practical solutions to address the environmental challenges confronting fashion. The fashion realm finds itself at a critical juncture. While ground-breaking materials and short-term initiatives often grab headlines, they sometimes fall short of delivering lasting ecological benefits. What's truly imperative are systemic transformations, such as enhancing energy efficiency, embracing low-carbon materials, and transitioning to renewable energy sources. 📚 Were you aware that the fashion industry is responsible for approximately 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, primarily originating from manufacturing within the supply chain? Collaborative efforts within the sector are absolutely indispensable. ⚙️ Undoubtedly, there are hurdles to overcome, including the quest for sustainable thermal energy sources. Nonetheless, we've made notable strides. According to the Apparel Impact Institute, by embracing established, existing solutions, we can make substantial reductions in emissions. Time is of the essence, and adhering to business-as-usual is no longer a viable option. ⏰ Stay connected with me for forthcoming updates, including the stellar line-up of speakers and essential reading materials. This summit is not merely focused on quick fixes; it's dedicated to shaping enduring business practices with a steadfast eye on future generations. 📣 For more information, kindly visit https://buff.ly/44AD1A0 and consider joining us as we delve deep into these pressing topics. #LeadersOnPurpose #CEOSummit #FutureOfFashion #BusinessTransformation

In today's world, sustainability has become a buzzword, with brands eager to showcase their eco-friendly initiatives. Yet, amidst the sea of green claims, how can consumers separate fact from fiction? It's imperative for consumers to approach these claims with a critical eye. As we strive to make more environmentally conscious choices, it's easy to fall prey to misleading marketing tactics. But by staying informed and asking the right questions, we can avoid being duped by brands and make choices that truly align with our values. At the same time, brands must step up and prioritize honesty in their sustainability efforts. Every small step towards sustainability should be celebrated, but it's equally important for brands to be transparent about their journey. Authenticity builds trust, and consumers deserve to know the truth behind the products they purchase. Let's shift the focus from flashy marketing ploys to genuine commitment. By holding brands accountable and championing transparency, we can pave the way for a more sustainable future—one where even the smallest steps make a meaningful difference. #Sustainability #Transparency #Authenticity #EIFW #ecointernationalfashionweek

Reflecting on a week brimming with engagement, learning, and inspiration at the 15th Global Fashion Agenda Global Fashion Summit, highlighted by the stellar performance of Lucky Love. Here are some standout moments: - The Future Supplier Initiative, a groundbreaking financing mechanism for carbon reduction, supported by key industry players like The Fashion Pact, Apparel Impact Institute, Guidehouse and CBS Bank and participating brands H&M, Gap, BESTSELLER and MANGO. This initiative is a hopeful step towards collaborative climate action and mutual investment in our planet, especially as forward looking CFOs like Adam Karlsson embrace and drive this. - Global and Local Recycling Efforts were in focus with valuable workshops I moderated on behalf of the Globlal Circular Fashion Forum, focused on local post-industrial waste recycling partnerships. In addition The Fashion Remodel was launched by Ellen MacArthur Foundation. It is aimed at keeping products in use by scaling circular business models by decoupling revenue from use and production. - The importance of humane values in leadership was emphasized by Paul Polman, highlighting the need for leaders who prioritize humanity and the interests of others to address pressing global challenges. - Inclusivity in Business was showcased through the Ralph Lauren x Naiomi Glasses collection, spotlighting Indigenous Navajo design and weaving methods, with the Indigenous community at the helm throughout the design and production process. Looking ahead to the future, expectations for the next summit in 2025 are to delve deeper into human rights, social responsibility, and due diligence, aligning with, but also exceeding, the just-approved CSDDD legislation. Excited for what lies ahead! #CopenhagenFashionSummit #Sustainability #FashionInnovation #ClimateAction #Circularity #InvestmentForChange #Inclusivity #Leadership #humanrights

A few weeks ago, The Global Fashion Summit convened in Copenhagen. Although “ambition to action” was the theme of this year's summit, the continual lack of true measurable progress seems to remain an industry challenge. Legal regulations must play a critical role in truly jumpstarting the lack of urgency around the industry's negative environmental impact and leveling the playing field. Rather than these summits becoming a self-congratulatory discussion of the positive steps the large global corporations are making to become more sustainable, the conversation needs to focus on the real challenges brands face in trying to decouple growth and profits from negative consequences to people and the planet. By educating both consumers and brands about the real consequences of their business models, change is possible. Check out Sophie Benson's excellent analysis of this year's summit in Dazed: https://lnkd.in/ew8Bf5ip #GlobalFashionSummit #climatechange #sustainability #fashionindustry #sustainablefashion

🌍✨ Why am I often in Bonn? To stay connected with the latest developments at the forefront of climate action! And the recent Sixth Systemic Innovation Workshop by the UN Climate Change Secretariat was no exception. Here’s how the creative industries, including fashion, play a pivotal role in driving climate solutions: 🎨 The Culture and Creative Industries (CCI) Taskforce at the UN Climate Change Global Innovation Hub is amplifying our voice in the conversation about climate change—our influence is growing louder! 🔄 From the workshop, there are 10 transformative lessons that the fashion industry can adopt to champion sustainability: 1. Holistic Approaches: We need strategies that address environmental, economic, and social dimensions—sustainable fashion isn't just about eco-friendly materials but also about fair labor and economic viability. 2. Innovation in Business Models: Encourage collaboration across the industry to achieve shared environmental goals. 3. Breaking the Vision Circle: Challenge existing perceptions and aim for necessary sustainable practices rather than settling for what seems possible. 4. Change and Incentives: Change is driven by incentivising sustainable practices and promoting consumer awareness. 5. Simplifying Complexity: Make sustainability data accessible and easy to understand to empower informed decisions. 6. Leadership and Collaboration: Unite diverse stakeholders through strong leadership to implement effective changes. 7. Human-Centric Approaches: Focus on consumer needs and humane, ethical practices. 8. Sustainable Infrastructure: Build systems that support practices like recycling and energy-efficient manufacturing. 9. Piloting Innovative Solutions: Test new sustainable practices in controlled environments to gauge their effectiveness before widespread implementation. 10. De-risking Business Cases: Support innovative, yet risky, sustainable initiatives that traditional investments might overlook. 🌟 The fashion industry is at a pivotal crossroads—by embracing these lessons from the UNFCCC workshop, it can not only boost its sustainability credentials but also shape its future success and relevance. 🔗 Let’s continue to care, share, and dare as we push for meaningful change across industries! #SustainableFashion #ClimateAction #UNFCCC #Innovation #LeadershipInSustainability
