We have enhanced both the hardware and software of our electric superbike, making it the first in the world to feature a 'sense of sight' through advanced cameras and radars that utilize artificial intelligence and machine learning. Our goal is to make motorcycling safer and more intuitive than ever before. The integration of six cameras and high-resolution radars at both the front and rear empowers the motorcycle with a new level of environmental awareness. This advancement is a key component of our Starmatter software and intelligence platform. The Verge TS Ultra now also features updated displays. The display on top of the tank is larger than before, which makes it easier to use. The Starmatter Dash view revolutionizes the way the rider interacts with the bike. The new dash makes managing essential functions easier and more intuitive; it informs and warns of potential hazards and displays the image from the rearview camera when the rider uses the turn signal, for example. U.S. Department of Transportation announces $25 million funding opportunity for Rural Autonomous Vehicle (RAV) Programs. The RAV program finances collaborative research and pilot deployment initiatives aimed at fostering a future rural transportation system that prioritizes safety, enhances American competitiveness, and promotes well-paying jobs. The Department is committed to empowering workers by expanding access to skills, training, and the option to join a union, ensuring their active participation in shaping innovation. This funding opportunity, specifically tailored for rural and Tribal applications of automated vehicle technologies, will enable the Department to advance mobility and safety solutions for the entire transportation sector. “Automated vehicles have the potential to enhance roadway safety and increase mobility options for all Americans, including older Americans, low-income households, people with disabilities, and those who cannot or choose not to drive,” said Dr. Robert C. Hampshire, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology and Chief Scientist. “Disparities in mobility and economic development opportunities in rural and Tribal communities leave many in those underserved communities unable to get to where they need to go to meet the needs of their daily life regularly, reliably, and safely; or to get necessary goods delivered. This research will move the needle forward,” Hampshire said.   Nineteen percent of the U.S. population lives in rural areas, and almost a quarter of all Americans aged 65 and older reside in rural communities. Yet, 47% of all roadway fatalities and 34% of all public highway-rail grade crossing fatalities occur on rural roads. A 2022 report from the National Disability Institute predicted that autonomous vehicles could help many people with disabilities get out of their homes and obtain jobs. Tom Foley, the group’s executive director, said a lack of transportation often causes isolation, which can lead to mental health problems. “There’s an epidemic of loneliness, particularly for older people and particularly for people with disabilities. For now, most riders who use wheelchairs need attendants to secure them inside a van before it starts moving. But researchers are looking into ways to automate that task so people who use wheelchairs can take advantage of fully autonomous vehicles.” #autonomousvehicles #disability #mobilitylifestyle

I was thrilled today to speak at the bi-annual sector dialogue of the Statens vegvesen - Norwegian Public Roads Administration for #urban #robots on sidewalks. My talk focussed on public-area mobile robots (PMRs) — i.e. mobile robots operating on #walkways, #bikeways, #roadways, #hallways, etc. Together, we looked at the current and expected near-future states, including some of the legislation that has been readied. I especially drew the audience's attention to questions about the foreseeable future as these systems scale. Key question: “How do you prepare your city when the total fleet size of all PMRs reaches one for every ten persons?" We don't often think about that, but if your city has a population of 500,000 that means 50,000 robots would be sharing public space. My question is relatively tame. The per capita motor vehicle count in the United States is over 0.8 and just under 0.6 in the EU. I’m only asking what happens when robots get to 0.1. Small potatoes! The real opportunity here is to upgrade our #activetransportation infrastructure significantly which is badly needed in many cities, anyway – and think about using these robots for many of the tasks for which we now use cars and other larger vehicles. #mobilerobots #deliveryrobot #securityrobot #maintenancerobot
