Did you know that 29 out of 50 states in the US do not have any laws specific to meal and rest breaks? Nurses are often faced with countless life and death decisions during their shifts—mental clarity is essential. Would you want an ICU nurse working 12+ hours without a break, taking care of your family member? We need to advocate for national nursing standards for breaks and basic work conditions. If CMS/Joint Commission cares about food and drink at a nurse's station, they should ask themselves why it's there! Let's prioritize the well-being of our nurses and ensure they have the support they need to provide the best care possible. #thebreaknurse #NursingStandards #BreaksMatter #PatientCare #nursingleadership

Few things are more intimidating and daunting than walking onto a floor for the first time. In some respects, the new nurse, likely in their 20s or 30s, immediately feels transported back into second grade with questions like "Will they like me?" "Where do I sit?" "Will there be snacks?" The facility will quickly become a second home, with secret passages and familiar sounds, complete with a second family. However, the transition is daunting because it is not taught in nursing school. In school, you are taught the mechanics of nursing, but not all aspects of nursing are physical. To help guide a new nurse, here are 7 essential skills every new nurse should strive to develop as they proceed through orientation. https://hubs.la/Q02pFpVh0 #nursingskills #compassionatenursing #nursetips #nursingblog #ncc

Low energy-fall incidents from nursing homes have been significantly impacting emergency room efficiency in Houston. Patients arrive at the ER with no apparent injuries, recounting vague stories of unwitnessed falls, and end up occupying precious beds for CT scans that reveal no injury. As a result, they stay in the emergency room for 4-6 hours, awaiting transportation back to the nursing home. However, with BrainScope, we can now perform scans on arrival in triage. If no injuries are detected, we can promptly return them to the nursing home using the same ambulance they arrived in, streamlining the process and optimizing emergency room resources.
The integration of BrainScope as a decision support tool has saved time for nursing staff in the ED. Hear a firsthand account from Alisha Akerson, BSN, RN, a nurse who regularly uses BrainScope in her Chicago-based emergency department. #emergencymedicine #pointofcare #BrainScope
