With the recent move to the UT system, I believe there will be greater focus on SFA's graduate programs and research/grants. With Dr. Lane's leadership, these areas should flourish.

Do you have the right incentives in place to encourage the culture & behaviour your institution needs? Or have you just been getting lucky that people go above and beyond? It is so important that we take the time to celebrate the tireless student success champions among us. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Other campuses should take note: who has provided critical internal leadership but never been appreciated publicly? Take a page from Virginia Commonwealth University leadership (Fotis Sotiropoulos & Michael Rao) and make intentional steps to recognize people going above and beyond so you continue to build the culture your students need.

Congratulations to Dr. Maggie Bowman, who successfully defended her dissertation this week. Maggie's (incredibly timely) study is entitled “I Need the Administrators to be More in the Trenches Right Now”: A Phenomenological Study of the Experiences of White Educators Centering Critical Lessons on Race in the Classroom. Dr. Bowman's findings offer clarity in a number of areas: 1) lessons about the realities of race and systemic racial inequities in the United States do not, in fact, equate to teaching Critical Race Theory, 2) educators engaging in this important work need support and clear communication from administrators, and 3) educators need coalitions among themselves in order to sustain this work. It's been an honor to learn from Dr. Bowman.
