Anyone who's ever been skiing knows the drill: sooner or later, you're bound to take a tumble and face-plant into the snow. But how would you feel if that snowy cushion was actually made from frozen wastewater? ⛷🎿 Over in the USA, Montana's Yellowstone Club — an exclusive ski resort frequented by the likes of Bill Gates and Justin Timberlake — has used treated wastewater to make snow since 2011. It's claimed the method reduces the strain on freshwater resources and demonstrates the efficacy of modern purification processes. But the approach has plenty of critics. 👎🏻 Some argue that adding artificial snow to natural landscapes could disrupt fragile ecosystems. 👎🏻 Indigenous communities have opposed similar projects in the past because they consider certain mountain peaks as sacred and object to covering them in water that once carried human waste. 👎🏻 There's also a challenge in overcoming public hesitation about using treated sewage water despite its thorough purification. It's an interesting case that brings up important questions about sustainability, the use of resources, and respecting diverse viewpoints. What do you think: is snow made from wastewater a sensible example of how to make our resources go further, or does it cross a line in environmental ethics? #WasteWater #WaterRecycling #SustainableInnovation

A very interesting article below about the critical importance of cooler roads, cool roofs, and more tree planting. Some challenges are also listed. But we see more options re roads. For our part we are intrigued by the impact of lighter coloured aggregates often seen in outback roads. See our web post image https://lnkd.in/gqWqKEsy. Note the red in the image here are hot spots - and the hot roads with their thermal mass retain their heat into the evening keeping our suburbs hotter than they need to be after the sun has gone down. Also read the full insightful article - listing the trial locations, costs, and future ideas. https://lnkd.in/gkhEfQfW #climateresilience #simplesolutions

Spending time outdoors since early childhood can impact your life in different ways. For Orlando Cazarez, Chief Executive Officer of Arizona Sustainability Alliance and HECHO HCLC member, that experience helped him develop a deep love and appreciation for nature, encouraged him to pursue a career in sustainability, and use his voice to protect our public lands. "Backpacking, fishing, camping, and just being outside in nature brings me peace and more awareness of how much it takes to maintain and protect these places outdoors and make them more accessible to all of us," said Cazarez. Read about his inspiring story in this blog. #Conservation #Latinoleaders #outdoors #Nature #sustainability
