177 Bothwell Street exemplifies Virgin Money's dedication to evolving workstyles and sustainable practices in 2024. By partnering closely with Form Design Form Design Consultants Ltd, we have crafted a dynamic space that promotes in-office collaboration and fosters a strong sense of community. The foundation of our sustainability strategy lies in longevity, starting with the evaluation of existing furniture for reuse. Our audit identified 50 pieces from ØRN Furniture and Ocee & Four Design, resulting in significant carbon savings and extending the life of these items. For new furniture, we prioritised materials and supplier proximity, opting for locally sourced fabrics, desks, and task chairs, which considerably reduced the project’s overall CO2 transportation emissions. Working alongside Form Design, we developed bespoke solutions to support Virgin Money's vision of a highly collaborative workspace. This included custom boardroom tables designed to enhance user experience. Additionally, multiple spaces throughout the building are designed for hybrid use, such as the town hall, which serves as a primary gathering point and doubles as a training and yoga space. These areas are furnished with loose mobile tables and chairs, ensuring adaptability for various functions. Workbrands will be participating at the Workspace Design Show Amsterdam 11-12 October 2023. As a company Workbrands no longer believe that designing work environments in a linear manner is an option. That unlimited global production and low production costs comes with a much more expensive price tag. This way of consuming is a drain on our limited resources. And climate change is the disastrous consequence of this. Since 2013, Workbrands have been helping companies to reduce the environmental footprint of their working environment by 50 to 90%. They do this by courageously designing circularly. By reusing raw materials and transforming existing office furniture. With their own refurbishment production location, large stock and efficient logistics process, they have everything in-house to carry out this successfully. The traditional linear model of producing new furniture over and over again depletes raw materials and causes unnecessary damage to the environment. Prosperity worldwide is growing and with it the demand for new products. Workbrands believe that there is sufficient good existing material to realize projects, where the environmental impact can be reduced by working with existing refurbished furniture. Within their vision on circularity, they focus on function preservation, value retention, lifespan extension and future reuse potential of new furniture. Let's explore how sustainable practices impact both the intrinsic value of properties and their allure to tenants. Energy Efficiency and Cost Savings: Sustainable features contribute to lower operational costs, enhancing the property's net operating income (NOI) and overall market value. Tenant Retention: A sustainable and comfortable working environment can contribute to tenant satisfaction and retention, influencing businesses to renew leases. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): Sustainable office spaces align with a company's commitment to social and environmental responsibility, making such spaces more attractive to tenants with similar values. What a lovely design by BDP (Building Design Partnership Ltd) for the Insights Lounge where we'll host Sustainability WORKS and Occupiers Forum across the 2 days of the Workspace Design Show London taking place later this month at Business Design Centre. Massive shout out to Lisa Pasi, Mark Simpson, Lewis Harman for taking the lead on this project. Hunters - Furniture Providers, MOGU, Merit Office Installations Ltd for sponsoring the area. Adhering to the show’s overarching theme, “Bloom – Exploring the Thriving Ecosystem of Work Life,” Lisa’s concept will focus on the symbiotic relationship between man and nature, often referred to as ‘biophilia’. Lisa’s preference for natural materials over synthetic counterparts and plastics is underpinned by several factors. The adoption of materials such as wood and stone not only provides an aesthetically pleasing and timeless design, fostering a warm and inviting atmosphere, but also positively influences mood and well-being. Lisa asserts, “Despite being consistently reminded of our connection to nature through our senses, this connection tends to diminish when we find ourselves indoors, surrounded by artificial light and synthetic materials. Therefore, by adhering to biophilic design principles, the inclusion of natural materials will establish a connection to nature, bolstering concentration, creativity, and job satisfaction.” Here are the agendas for the 2 conferences being held at the Insights Lounge - https://lnkd.in/euET5DNt Charlie Bark-Jones #workspacedesign #officefurniture #officeinteriors #workplaceculture #londonevents #interiordesign

Another fabulous SUSTAINABLE DESIGN FORUM that exceeded all expectations! One of the highlights was John Robertson Architects speaking about CARBON BLIND SPOTS AND THE LIFECYCLE OF WORKPLACE FIT-OUT In recent years, office design has focussed on employee experience to promote a higher sense of value. And rightly so. But what is the carbon footprint of amenity-rich curated working environments? A typical first fitout is roughly a quarter of the building´s carbon cost. In fact, a typical floor build up is higher in embodied carbon than the concrete slab it sits on. But what should really concern us is the fitout´s significantly lower lifespan and the frequency of replacement cycles. If a fit-out is replaced more often than every 15 years, the carbon footprint of the fitout will outweigh the carbon footprint of the building fabric we have all been focussing on so far. Lucy Crane (PIEMA)´s presentation on the CARBON FOOTPRINT OF FURNITURE linked in really well with an in-depth and eye-opening piece of research shining a light on the complexity of furniture construction. More inspiring presentations on ◾ PROMOTION OF SUSTAINABILTY TO OUR CLIENTS by Ana Rita Martins, King E. and May Fawzy ◾ MATERIAL PASSPORTS by Rachel Hoolahan ◾ CIRCULAR DESIGN by Asif Din, Deborah Allen, Anja Schellenbauer and Rikke L. ◾ THE HEALTHY AND MINDFUL WORKPLACE by Jennie GreenWalker and Sameeha Joshi ◾ INVESTIGATING SUPPLY CHAINS by Lucy Bagshaw and her Team at tp bennett The key take-away for me was that as a Collective we are so much greater than the sum of our parts. Amazing how just one day packed with so much knowledge sharing can make a real impact. Organised by Harsha Kotak and Joanna Knight and all other SDC - Sustainable Design Collective members who generously shared their expertise to effect change and make a real difference.

At Greystone Infra, we believe that great design isn't just about aesthetics—it's about inclusivity and functionality for all ages! Today, let's talk about something close to our hearts: “Designing Commercial Spaces With Our Seniors in Mind.” As our population ages, it's vital to create environments that cater to the needs of older adults. From ergonomic furniture to well-lit corridors and easily accessible facilities, every detail counts when it comes to making our spaces senior-friendly. Imagine walking into a workspace where every corner is thoughtfully designed to accommodate varying mobility levels and sensory needs. It's not just about meeting accessibility standards. It's about creating spaces that empower and inspire everyone who walks through our doors. At Greystone Infra, we take pride in our commitment to universal design principles. We strive to create environments that are not only beautiful but also functional and inclusive for people of all ages and abilities. Because when we design with diversity in mind, we create spaces where everyone can thrive. So, whether you're planning a new office layout or renovating an existing space, let's work together to create commercial environments that embrace people of all ages. Let's build spaces that are not just senior-friendly, but truly welcoming to everyone. Together, we can make a difference, one design at a time!
