Transition to renewable energy has been given a big boost in Louisiana; The Public Service Commission has introduced a new ruling which allows commercial and industrial clients to purchase up to 500 MW of renewable energy, signifying that companies are recognizing the importance and need for renewable power - which is essential to stay competitive. Currently, Louisiana only has 600 MW of solar power but with the new ruling in effect, there is expected to be a surge in solar companies increasing their capacities to cater to large businesses wanting to shift toward or increase their consumption of solar energy. To obtain the renewable energy, businesses can notify their utilities of their plans to seek a “sleeved” PPA, an agreement method that is proving to be more versatile than a regular PPA, with businesses such as McDonald's already holding two such PPAs for solar power projects in Louisiana.
