PKSOI's Director COL Liddick and Mr. Travis Bolio recently joined several Army leaders to write an article that is now published in the Military Review: BG Matt Metzel, (Deputy Commanding General (Operations), 200th Military Police Command); COL Heiva Kelly (Director, Strategic Initiatives Group, US Army Reserve); and LTC(P) Rob Greiner (Strategist, TRANSCOM JECC).
This writing expands on FM 3-0 by further defining the meaning and subsequent value that consolidation of gains provides to the Army and the Joint Force. It begins by defining the purpose for consolidating gains and then briefly describes how the term has been modified over time while maintaining a place of prominence within the Army’s mission. The article applies examples from doctrine and recent experience to demonstrate the utility of consolidating gains in preparation for deterring and winning war. Finally, this writing identifies the risk incurred should gains be poorly consolidated and concludes by offering tools and approaches for future consideration.
