I had the pleasure to share the podium with Rachel Marcus for our “Electrifying Transportation – Microgrid Solutions in a Changing Energy Landscape” panel at Microgrid Global Innovation Forum, speaking about the application of microgrids in facilitating fast-growing transportation electrification. We explored the state of the market, challenges, and potential opportunities. Through an interactive discussion we agreed that while the grid was not designed for such large loads, and with all the capacity congestions and interconnection queue challenges, we still don’t have all the mechanisms to capture available values of the current energy market. Ultimately microgrids are poised to solve a number of pain points associated with electrifying transportation, and with appropriate market mechanisms, this can be economically viable for utilities, third parties, and end-users alike. #woodmackenzie #microgrids #TransportationElectrification
