As I reflect on our celebrations of Memorial Day and D-day, I am so humbled. Countless brave, selfless Americans sacrificed everything to protect our freedoms and the American way of life. I am so thankful. Today our freedoms are not being used to have robust debates to bring about positive change. Instead, they are being used to polarize, divide and tear our nation apart. You are either "for us" or "against us." If you are "against us" then you are the enemy. Instead of tolerance we have mocking, ridicule and outright hatred. Where is tolerance in this? Tolerance does not mean I accept, celebrate and endorse your view point or personal lifestyle choices. Rather, it means I can disagree with your view or choice and still respect you as a person and treat you with the common courtesy and respect that all deserve. Tolerance is a fundamental by-product of individual rights and freedoms, yet it is lacking in today's society. Our brave military sacrificed everything to preserve our way of life. Today we have people who have never served or sacrificed anything for anyone doing everything they can to destroy our way of life. What has happened to our nation? It must break the hearts of our veterans. May we as a nation reflect on this and relearn common courtesy, decency, tolerance for and respect of others. May we use our freedoms to make our communities and nation a better place to live for all, not worse.

In our previous posts, we discussed the aftermath of the First Crusade and the challenges faced by the Crusader states. Today, we shift our focus to the rise and significance of the military orders, esteemed religious organizations that played a vital role in defending the Crusader states and upholding Christian ideals. The military orders, including the renowned Knights Templar, Knights Hospitaller, and Teutonic Knights, originated in response to the unique demands of the Crusades. These orders were established as religious institutions that combined the fervor of religious devotion with military expertise. They emerged during the 12th century as the need for specialized forces to protect Christian pilgrims and the Crusader states became increasingly apparent. Initially, the primary mission of the military orders was to provide protection and assistance to Christian pilgrims journeying to the Holy Land. Pilgrims faced numerous dangers, including bandits, hostile forces, and the treacherous nature of the journey itself. The orders stepped in to ensure safe passage, offering guidance, provisions, and, when necessary, armed escorts. As the Crusader states faced ongoing threats from Muslim forces, the military orders expanded their responsibilities. They evolved into formidable military forces, committed to the defense of the Crusader states and the preservation of Christian control in the Holy Land. The orders played an instrumental role in battles, sieges, and the fortification of key positions, becoming a formidable presence on the battlefield. #mylineage #armour #ancienthistory #militaryhistory #medievalist #medievalhistory #medievaltimes #medieval #heraldry #middleages #lionheart #richardthelionheart #armor #medievalworld #medievalchivalry #kingdomofjerusalem #jerusalem #warriorhistory #saladin #thecrusades #thirdcrusade #medievalknight #medievalarmor #knighthood #crusades #templarios #knightstemplar #templar #cruzadas #europeanhistory https://lnkd.in/gPkiHJGB

Vietnam was one of the most pointless, divisive, and futile wars in which Australia has been involved, in our long list of pointless, divisive and futile wars that we have fought to curry favour with Imperial Powers. Vietnam was a massive policy failure, driven by group-think on the part of a servile political class incapable of thinking independently about Australia's national interests. The first time we did this was in 1865 when we sent troops to the Sudan to put down an uprising by the Sudanese against the British Empire - the crime of the Sudanese was wanting to govern themselves. Under the command of Lord Kitchener, the British slaughtered the Sudanese and Australians helped them carry it out. Have we learnt anything since then? Many of us have learnt a lot, but our political class hasn't learnt a thing. Liberal and Labor have both committed themselves to war with China at the behest of the US when China inevitably reclaims Taiwan. They will do this for the same reason as they sent Australians to Sudan in 1865 and to Vietnam in 1962 - to curry favour with Imperial Powers in the northern hemisphere to whom we outsource our national security. 2023. Time to become a grown-up country.
Today marks half a century since the end of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War. 60,000 Australians served between 1962 and 1972, with 523 making the ultimate sacrifice. Lest we forget.

As Memorial Day unfolds, it's more than just a day off or a time for barbecues. It's a moment to pause, reflect, and honor the sacrifices made by those who have served and continue to serve in the armed forces. It's a day to acknowledge the debt of gratitude we owe to those who have given their lives in defense of our freedom and way of life. Memorial Day is a time to remember not only the soldiers who have fallen, but also the families they leave behind. It's a day to recognize the immense sacrifices made by military families, who endure long separations, frequent moves, and the constant fear of the unknown. But amidst the somber reflections, there is also room for gratitude. Gratitude for the freedoms we often take for granted. Gratitude for the quality of life we enjoy, made possible by the dedication and bravery of our armed forces. And let's commit ourselves to ensuring that their sacrifices were not in vain. Let's work to build a world where freedom and justice are not just lofty ideals, but lived realities for all. Let's strive to create a future worthy of the legacy left to us by those who have gone before. This Memorial Day, let's remember, let's reflect, and let's give thanks. But let's also recommit ourselves to the values & lets ensure a brighter future for generations to come. #MemorialDay #Gratitude #RememberTheHeroes #RememberAndReflect
