From June 14 through July 15, 2024, the Winston-Salem Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (WSUAMPO) is seeking public comment on 35 regionally significant roadway and rail projects (Regional Impact Projects) that are competing for funding through North Carolina’s Strategic Prioritization Process. Your feedback will help us determine which projects should receive local input points. Local input points are a key factor in determining whether a project scores high enough to be funded through Prioritization. The "Northside on the Move" - Capital Projects Development Strategy, underscores the importance of partnerships. This strategy, presented at the Harris County Commissioner Court, was a collaborative effort involving the Greater Northside Management District, Precinct 2 - Commissioner Adrian Garcia, Harris County Engineering Department conducted by The Goodman Corporation. The study assessed corridors to determine priority areas for improvements. It’s fun seeing good opportunities presented to good people, and I’m not just saying that because this is my dad, Craig Thompson. Yes, I’m biased. But I also recognize how impactful its been having a model of relentless improvement and leadership on my own personal development. A few things in particular that I do my best to emulate: - Doing the right thing always wins. - Principles matter. - You’re never done learning. - Investing in people > investing in process. - Leadership is a choice, not a title. - Just about anything is possible with patience and grit. - You’re responsible for your own success. - Attitude is everything, and it’s contagious. Terry, in your travels did you personally visit local colleges & universities to find potentials like, individuals that were completely foreign to projects, project controls, construction & mentoring them into reliable, self motivated individuals? Actually being an ambassador to international assignments? Or did you just do the assignment? I did! I nurtured people to take on challenges that left to their own “national” opportunities would have been little more than “worker bees” regardless of education. Terry I’ve seen your advancement through your career, & like many I’ve seen, they took credit. I can truthfully say the teams I built would go wherever I asked them to travel with me. How many can say that? Honestly, how many has FLR turned their back on? How many were charge hypo-tax that were not even US citizens? How many were not paid according to the host country’s labor laws? How many were “terminated” because they knew the laws & confronted the Company? You are correct! FLUOR was once a great company. Now it’s only for the bottom line & investors! Not the true “makers” of the company! The real assets, the people! It is true a company can do what it wants”wants” with assets. The same as those assets can do with a company.

They discussed how to be intentional about generating employment and other economic benefits for local residents through construction projects, and highlighted how engaging the Aecon-Golden Mile Joint Venture (A-GM) can advance social purpose objectives within the scope of existing projects. 🚧 Facing Industry Challenges: A Perspective from Today's Panelists 🚧 At today's SMPS Pittsburgh panel discussion on Transportation and Infrastructure, we delved into some key issues from various organizations' perspectives. Here's what I learned: Staffing Challenges: As all companies today compete for the best talent, it is more complex and more challenging to find adequate expertise for the jobs at each of these companies. The Pittsburgh International Airport has taken strides to provide various amenities for its employees like ample parking, transportation, and childcare onsite. Construction: The dollar does not go as far as it once did, and many of these projects that were bid either before or during COVID are facing challenges with the increased costs related to construction. The organizations also discussed the need for true quality in design and construction. This is all happening while facing the constant supply chain issues that make the process go slower.  The question that the room was waiting for is what do these companies look for in their partnerships: - An integrated organizational chart that promotes diversity. - A local project manager with the expertise necessary to handle the project successfully. - A local project principal to call on when problems arise. - The company needs to reinvest in the engineers in our region. - National experience with individuals from various markets and segments to inject diverse perspectives and creative ideas. - Strong problem-solving skills. - Excellent communication with all parties involved. Oliver Beasley asked a final question – How do the transportation industry and these large infrastructure projects affect real estate? "If you build it – they will come." As transportation to specific areas becomes more smooth in the region, it will make it more desirable to develop the site. And to that, I say – When will we finish Route 28??
