The first quarter DAISY Award Recipient at TriStar Hendersonville is Lindy Parker, RN, Medical/Surgical. The DAISY award honors the super-human work nurses do for patients and families every day. Lindy was selected based on two nominations she received by patients: "This nurse went above and beyond each day I was under her care. She was super-caring and the very best!" "This nurse gave me a listening ear the entire time I was under her care. Best nurse I have ever had. Demonstrated care when I shared concerns about my meds and stayed by my bed as I ranted about my pain. Kept me laughing when I felt like bawling my eyes out. The care and compassion shown through her eyes and smile. I could not ask for better. She deserves more than this award in my eyes... a raise, a medal, a new car! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!" Thanks for all you do for our patients and colleagues Lindy! #CareLikeFamily (ALT TEXT: Pictured is leadership with our first quarter Daisy award winner, Lindy Parker, RN, Medical/Surgical.)

Maggie is dedicated to being a tireless champion for nurses. She strives to protect nurses' rights and elevate the nursing profession as a whole.
👏 Shoutout to Alex (The Break Nurse) Whitefield, MSN, RN! 👏 In the realm of #nursing, where outdated practices persist, Alex is a beacon of innovation. His groundbreaking software tackles a pervasive issue—#nurse breaks. Here's why it matters: When a #nurse assumes care of patients and takes on additional assignments during another #nurses break this is not just a workflow challenge; it's a risk to #patientsafety and legal liability to the nurse and the organization. As stated by a lawyer: "Knowingly and willing taking on an unsafe assignment is the definition of medical malpractice." I've witnessed firsthand how taking on an unsafe assignment even when relieving another nurse for a break compromises response times and exposes both nurses and facilities to potential failures to respond - aka bad outcomes and litigation. Under rules and regulations and codes of ethics, it's the duty and responsibility of all nurses to provide a safe environment for all patients and I am here to remind all #nurses that nothing supersedes the professional license of a provider ever! What Alex has created is revolutionary! It's not just about providing breaks; it's about ensuring continuity of care and mitigating risks - a gift to any organization. When there's a relief #nurse, work continues seamlessly, preventing delays and potential legal repercussions to the nurse and the organization. As a nurse with 23 years of critical care experience and former investigator for a board as well as a civil and administrative expert, I've seen the consequences of inadequate staffing and lack of breaks cost patients their lives and nurses their licenses. Alex's solution isn't just a win for nurses—it's a win for organizations. It saves thousands of dollars in legal fees and fines from governing bodies, improves #nurse satisfaction and retention, and, most importantly, enhances #patientcare and safety. Another HUGE thanks to Rebecca Love RN, MSN, FIEL for connecting us, I love meeting trailblazing nurses. I'm thrilled to connect with Alex at #vive2024! #nurses are taking the helm, advocating for change, and making a real impact on healthcare outcomes and I am proud to stand amongst them. Inova is proud to have more than 2,600 certified nurses on our team! Jordan T., MSN, RN, CEN, TCRN, Inova Loudoun Hospital's Trauma Director and BCEN's 2023 Distinguished TCRN Award Winner, says "At Inova, the support for nursing and for certification is real." "Certification gave me the knowledge not just to anticipate based on experience, but to understand exactly what is happening in a patient’s body, what’s going to happen to them in 6 hours, and what to expect in 2 days," Jordan explains. "I stopped treating symptoms, and injuries, and mechanisms, and started treating a patient and their families." Lead Nurse Educator, Christine Vogel, MSN, RN, CHSE, CHSOS, shared her favorite UbiSim Scenario! It's Earl Jenkins. Here's why: "Heart failure exacerbation was one of my favorite simulations to author. This scenario includes a complex medical history, many abnormal and dynamic assessment signs that look incredibly realistic, the chance for learners to practice SBAR communication with the provider and carry out multiple provider orders, and independent nursing interventions that help the patient. Heart failure is a chronic illness and is associated with conditions such as depression. It is important for nurse learners to care for patients and families experiencing chronic illnesses such as heart failure, to provide therapeutic communication, education, and empathy, as well as recognize and treat exacerbations skillfully." Very exciting indeed - an important part of the story, not to be missed, is hearing an #intentionalrounding leading practice from the #CHRO - visiting the frontline teams. UMMS has prioritized becoming an #HRO for their system and this is one great example of how that filters down into action. LENS is a Vizient, Inc technology that creates local learning areas; gives voice to the frontline and promotes performance improvement collaboration - creating dynamic and healthy local #cultures because that is where the magic happens for the patients we serve. #patientsafety #performanceimprovement #localculture #leaderrounding
I make a point of visiting our member organizations in person. These visits allow me to see firsthand the patient-focused actions our team members are implementing at University of Maryland Medical Systems. University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center team members Chief Nursing Officer David Hunt and Director of Nursing Practice and Outcomes Jaime Van Allen highlighted their emphasis on consistency in care during my recent visit. Nurse Manager Brandi Caver, MSN, RN-BC discussed the unit’s Learning and Engagement System (LENS) Board, created to improve processes and foster collaboration, resulting in dynamic and unrivaled care for our patients.
