🩺 The Importance of Primary Healthcare🌟 As a nurse dedicated to promoting wellness and disease prevention, I can't stress enough the vital role that primary healthcare plays in our communities. 🌱 At the forefront of healthcare delivery, primary care serves as the cornerstone of our health system, offering comprehensive and continuous care to individuals and families. It's not just about treating illnesses; it's about fostering a culture of proactive health management. 💡 First and foremost, primary healthcare acts as a gateway to the healthcare system, ensuring that everyone has access to essential medical services regardless of their socioeconomic status. 👩⚕️ From routine check-ups to managing chronic conditions, primary care providers offer a wide range of services that address the diverse needs of patients. By promoting early detection and intervention, they empower individuals to take control of their health and well-being. 🏥 Moreover, primary healthcare emphasizes the importance of preventive care and health education. 📚 By educating patients about healthy lifestyle choices, disease prevention, and the importance of regular screenings, primary care providers empower individuals to make informed decisions about their health. This proactive approach not only reduces the burden of preventable diseases but also promotes overall well-being and longevity. 🌈 In addition to promoting individual health, primary healthcare plays a crucial role in promoting community health and resilience. 🌍 Through initiatives such as immunization programs, health screenings, and community outreach, primary care providers work to address public health challenges and reduce health disparities. By engaging with local communities and building trust-based relationships, they foster a sense of solidarity and collaboration that strengthens the fabric of society. 🤝 In conclusion, primary healthcare is not just a medical service; it's a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of a healthy society. 💪 By prioritizing prevention, accessibility, and community engagement, we can build a healthcare system that is equitable, sustainable, and responsive to the needs of all individuals. Let's continue to champion the importance of primary care and work towards a healthier future for generations to come! #PrimaryHealthcare #HealthForAll #WellnessWednesday 🌟

The passage of the new Congressional omnibus spending bill brings good news for Atrium Health patients. Provisions in the bill extend the ability of hospital systems to provide home-based acute care to patients and receive payment for their services under Medicare coverage. Atrium Health is a pioneer in home-based care. As COVID-19 emerged in 2020, we created the COVID-19 virtual hospital, allowing us to monitor and treat tens of thousands of patients in the comfort of their own home. That has since evolved into the Atrium Health Hospital at Home, which offers home-based acute care for a variety of medical conditions, including cardiac care and certain types of infectious diseases. Hospital at Home uses wearable technology to provide hospital-level care, utilizing paramedics to make routine visits to the patients’ homes, as well as video visit consultations with their care provider. Atrium Health has built the largest hospital at home program in the country, yielding lower costs for safe, high-quality care and greater patient satisfaction scores. Atrium Health teammates and executives were active in helping our government’s leaders learn and understand the many benefits of this new way of delivering care. We are especially thankful for the efforts of Sen. Tim Scott, of South Carolina, Senator Thom Tillis, of North Carolina, and Sen. Tom Carper, of Delaware, for their leadership in ensuring bipartisan support for this important component of the bill, which will help Atrium Health and other care providers improve health, hope and healing for all.

Feedback from the Hospital at Home initiatives in Montreal showing how patients prefer this approach: "A survey found that eligible patients are embracing the Hospital@Home program: 100% of participants prefer the program to in-hospital care. And with a 93% approval rating, patients are overwhelmingly satisfied. Hospital statistics show that of the eligible patients who have been presented with the option, only 4% have declined. In patient surveys after recovery, 90% said they believed the program facilitated their recovery." Glad to see the implementation of digital health benefiting both patients and outcomes. https://lnkd.in/eMhtesdg

The Canadian healthcare system, admired globally for its universal coverage, faces a complex array of challenges. While it ensures access to essential medical services for all citizens, several systemic issues have arisen, impacting both patients and medical practitioners. A prominent issue is the alarming situation of overcrowded emergency rooms, where patients face wait times of up to 20 hours. This strain on emergency services not only affects patient care but also puts immense pressure on healthcare professionals. One of the key strategies to alleviate such pressures could be the wider adoption of rapid diagnostic tests. These tests, including COVID-19, Influenza, Strep, and RSV rapid tests, offer numerous benefits in a healthcare setting grappling with high demands and limited resources. In their new Forefront article, Regina E. Herzlinger, Richard J. Boxer, and Ben Creo from Harvard Business School and the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA argue that, to prevent the needless loss of human life in the future, all hospitals should disclose their load-balance plans on a regular basis in a public forum. "The issue was not supply. At the beginning of the pandemic, the United States had one of the highest ICU capacities in the world, more than 25 beds per 100,000 people, whereas a majority of countries that report ICU-bed numbers have fewer than five ICU beds per 100,000 people. Yet, during the pandemic, patients died from a lack of ICU beds in the places they were needed: While some hospitals were overcapacity, other staffed ICUs in the same region were undercapacity."
