Some wins for trust-based philanthropy in the Center for Effective Philanthropy's State of Nonprofits 2024 report, alongside some very real challenges faced by nonprofits. TL;DR version incoming: 📣 Funders have largely stuck with the (much needed, long overdue) trust-based practices many of us first adopted in 2020, including unrestricted funding, reduced reporting and multiyear commitments. 📣 Folks are tired, y’all. The work is draining, secondary trauma is real, and nonprofit leaders are increasingly concerned about burnout among their staff (and for themselves). 📣 Most nonprofits either broke even financially or experienced a surplus last year. 📣 BUT inflation has hit nonprofits hard, and organizations have trouble paying competitive wages to attract and retain talent. It's a good read, and it echoes some of what we saw locally in the State of Nonprofits and Philanthropy Report from The Nonprofit Institute at USD several months ago.

Join me August 15 at 11am ET for the Organization Design Forum "Coffee to Cocktails" (it depends on your time zone) Club! This is an informal gathering I host monthly where practitioners new and experienced can come together to discuss what I hope are interesting topics in organization design. This month we will explore both the what and the how of organization design in the nonprofit sector. We will seek to understand what makes a nonprofit operating model unique and how we practice our craft differently when working with nonprofit organizations, as opposed to corporate or government entities. No experience working with nonprofits is necessary to engage in this rich conversation. Sign up below!

Working strategically to better coordinate and communicate across business, government and nonprofit sectors to improve health and economic outcomes.
It is a tremendous honor to be a part of this effort. If you are not a member of the Nonprofit Executive Alliance but you are a business or nonprofit leader, or an elected official, and would like to participate, please let me know. Next month, in partnership with Broward County Government, the Coordinating Council of Broward, Nonprofit Executive Alliance, Community Foundation of Broward and the American Jewish Committee (AJC) we will be co-hosting three workshops on Anti-Semitism. These workshops are geared to nonprofit and business leaders as well as elected officials. Not only is this issue deeply personal to me but Broward County has one of the largest populations of Jews in the world and it's one of the fastest growing populations in our community. Antisemitism in America is rising, becoming more commonplace and more violent. Ranging from threatening Jewish people on the streets to a constant barrage of online hate—it impacts your staff, board, volunteers, those you serve, their families, and our entire community. Recognizing that antisemitism poses a threat to democracy, the White House recently released the U.S. National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism, which adopts a “whole-of-society” approach to addressing antisemitism in America. Based on AJC’s comprehensive Call to Action Against Antisemitism, the National Strategy provides concrete examples of what businesses can do to stem the tide, such as including antisemitism awareness and training in diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) curricula. It also calls on employers to educate andshare information about Jewish American heritage, culture, and history. American leadership—from public, private, and nonprofit sectors—has a critical role to play in fighting all forms of hatred, including antisemitism. That fight begins with understanding the problem, learning about the diversity of the Jewish community, and empowering people to speak out. Please reach out if you would like to learn more.
Nonprofit and business leaders in South Florida -- American Jewish Committee (AJC) is partnering with Nonprofit Executive Alliance, Community Foundation of Broward, Coordinating Council of Broward and David Posnack JCC to bring an important training For Non-Profit, For-Profit, & Civic Leaders on Countering Antisemitism in the Workplace. Gain a deeper understanding of antisemitism, seeking ways to effectively address and counteract its presence in our society. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain profound insights from Dr. Saba Soomekh, AJC’s Director of Training and Education, into combatting prejudice and fostering understanding as she addresses the pressing issue of global antisemitism. · April 2, 12:00 pm: Virtual event hosted by Nonprofit Executive Alliance. The Center for Effective Philanthropy recently released their 2024 State of Nonprofits report. One of their top findings? Burnout is increasingly becoming a top concern for nonprofit leaders. - 95% of nonprofit leaders surveyed shared that they have some level of concern about burnout, both their own and/or of their staff. - 3/4 of them said that burnout among their staff is at least slightly impacting their organization’s ability to achieve its mission. - 1/3 of nonprofit leaders surveyed say that they are “very much” concerned about their own burnout, and half report that they are more concerned about their burnout now than last year. Has the topic of burnout come up in your organization? https://lnkd.in/gnNE9GDi #burnout #nonprofits #philanthropy #staffcrisis
