“Luxury travel is booming. As the travel industry continues to rebound post-pandemic, the high-end sector has flourished even as rising costs of living price out the less affluent. Valued at US$1.67 trillion (S$2.3 trillion) in 2022, the global luxury travel market is expected to grow to US$3.7 trillion by 2032, according to a November 2023 report by market research firm Spherical Insights & Consulting. And market-watchers say luxury travellers – many of them from Asia – are increasingly seeking out exotic destinations, culinary trips and once-in-a-lifetime adventures. In a November 2023 report, Virtuoso – a network of more than 20,000 luxury travel agents and advisers in 54 countries, including Singapore – said more than half of members surveyed expected travel demand and spending to go up in 2024. There is no universally agreed-on definition of a “luxury traveller”, but those advised by the network spend more than US$20,000 a trip each on average. Some members say clients spend between US$10,000 and US$50,000 a trip.”
