📆 During this week's event ‘The Future of #RideHailing in Europe’ organised by Centre on Regulation in Europe (CERRE), panellists discussed the fragmented ride-hailing regulatory landscape in the EU and took stock of the 2022 European Commission Notice on Local passenger transport-on-demand (taxis and PHV). 🚗 🚕 Move EU Chair Aurelien Pozzana emphasised the role that ride-hailing can play in reducing dependency on privately owned cars but underlined that much still has to be done so that national and local ride-hailing regulations are modernized and more balanced in order to serve the mobility needs of European citizens. DG MOVEs’ Jean-Louis Colson stated that Member States and their authorities are progressively taking the 2022 Notice into account, and the European Commission is referring to it when dealing with complaints about local ride-hailing regulations. 🔮 What’s next? The European Commission may come forward with an updated version of the notice, taking into account aspects that were not covered yet, such as quotas, price limitations and conclusions from recent court cases.

As we near the close of Asian & Pacific American Heritage Month, I think it's important to highlight the historic contributions of Asians and Asian Americans in the U.S. While you could write several books on the matter, I'll share some brief history from the transportation/infrastructure space about the Transcontinental Railroad. In the mid-1800's, thousands of Chinese immigrants came to cash in on California's Gold Rush. Unfortunately, many were too late and settled for work on the railroads (or restaurants and laundries like my great-great-grandfather in 1868). The railroad workers bore through hundreds of miles of inhospitable Sierra Nevada terrain for low wages in harsh and unsafe conditions. The railroad was ceremoniously completed with a golden spike in Promontory Summit, Utah, but when a photo was taken to commemorate the occasion, the Chinese were deliberately omitted. We've come a long way from these times, but Asians and Asian-Americans alike still struggle for recognition in our workplaces and communities (see "model minority myth" and "Asian Americans are not a monolith"). I hope that we may we continue to advocate for ourselves and support each other in our fight to be seen for all that we do and all that we truly are! https://lnkd.in/eZQcQe9U #transportation #infrastructure #aapi #asianamerica #chineseamerican #ushistory

✊More transport volumes on rail tracks in EU? Mr. Ralf-Charley Schultze is fighting for all of us in Brussels by the EU institutions. But no one can do it alone! This goal can only be achieved together with all participants in a logistics chain. 🛤 Let’s build the right bridges and work together in a spirit of trust. UIRR and its CT4EU are the important initiatives bringing all European logistics companies to fight together for more recognition of rail transport within EU legislation. Had a pleasure to meet my long-time colleague and president of UIRR Mr. Ralf-Charley Schultze in Prague. You have all my support.

Having infrastructure will not change the lives of people who are not ready to change their lives. For changes, very strong and long shocks are used so that changes become a habit, as well as strict systemic restrictions, such as monetary ones. But this is model of the world, where upbringing, education, teaching, mentoring are control functions, and in fact they break. The era of endless growth clearly confirms this. We work poorly with consciousness, without which any changes are not possible in principle. and the reason is not in people, but in the social environment and the economy it generates. As soon as we stop doing nonsense, spending our limited resources on it and get down to business not busyness, the issues of socialization of consciousness will become a thing of the past, like many other problems. Also have a living environment that will make adjustments to the development model of both the individual and society. Stars and following is not a panacea. We must stop judging by exclusive examples if we do not want to wander for the next 40 years... although at the moment it is already less
Picture this - #Worldleaders creating traffic chaos in NY during the #UN General Assembly week. All except one. The Austrian President, Alexander van der Bellen, embraces public transport(!). In contrast to the parade of prestigious vehicles, he navigates bustling Vienna daily on foot, by bike, or public tram. His philosophy doesn't change overseas. Caught in action during NY's General Assembly, he comfortably rides the subway. His actions resonate deeply with Enrique Penalosa's profound words, '𝗔 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘀, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁.' We need more leaders like him, don't we? #UNGA #Newyork Edit: It seems the quote is actually not from Gustavo Petro, thanks to Jaime for pointing that out.
