The German-Serbian Chamber of Commerce (AHK Serbien) organized a study trip for companies and organizations to Bayern on the topic of "Smart City and Digitalization". This initiative was in collaboration with the Bayern International and the partner company em&s GmbH from Germany. The event was under the patronage and subsidy of the Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Wirtschaft, Landesentwicklung und Energie. Our participation in the Bayern Fit for Partnership study trip left the Dirako team inspired by innovative Smart City and Digitalization concepts. 1️⃣ In Regensburg, Germany's commitment to eco-friendly public transport amazed us as they transitioned to electric buses, aiming for a complete transition by 2035. The symbolic names of electric buses, Emil and Emilia, have sparked reflections on gender roles in real life, given that Emil requires a driver while Emilia is autonomous. 2️⃣ Domagkpark, a unique Smart City in Munich, sets high standards for sustainable living with planned roads, a 30 km/h speed limit, and a blend of solar and green roofs for energy independence, fresh air and greenery. Witnessing the transition from traditional communities to Smart City decisions has left us optimistic about the possibilities ahead. 3️⃣ ASCEND, a European initiative, aims to implement Positive Clean Energy Districts (PCED) for enhanced living. Munich and Lyon serve as experimental cities, and will be the first to experience such ecological transformations. This project emphasizes that Smart Cities transcend digitalization, highlighting the crucial role of ecology and environmental protection. 4️⃣ We explored a new Smart City project, a sustainable settlement for 11,000 residents with geothermal plants providing thermal energy from 3000 meters below, integrated solar panels, and roads thoughtfully built for autonomous electric vehicles, ensuring complete energy independence. This opportunity was truly inspiring to all of us and we want to contribute to a future where innovation seamlessly integrates with environmental consciousness, inspired by the diverse and sustainable Smart City initiatives witnessed during our study trip.

🌐📉 Today, the majority of the transport sector relies on fossil fuel combustion, contributing significantly to air pollution in both urban and regional areas. As the transport sector plays a pivotal role in global energy-related greenhouse gas emissions, this emphasizes the urgent need for sustainable urban freight solutions. 🌟 SOLUTIONSplus is leading the way in Quito's historic center, pioneering sustainable urban freight with the introduction of e-cargo bikes which are utilized by logistic operators like Recyclers Associations and local restaurants for their daily activities, creating a positive impact on the environment. Challenges within this process include digital barriers, for example, access to the internet and the possibility to invest in new technologies. 🔗 As part of our commitment to capacity building, SOLUTIONSplus orchestrated a dynamic peer-to-peer exchange in Quito from November 27th to December 1st. The event brought together key stakeholders, including the Escuela Politécnica Nacional, Zaragoza Logistics Center (ZLC), and local partners. A highlight of the exchange was the presentation of a cutting-edge tool and model with open software to ensure free availability for logistic optimization in Quito, developed by Milos Milenkovic, a researcher at ZLC and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering of the University of Belgrade. Finally, the workshop "Exploring collaborations on e-Logistics" examined possible future collaborations with other institutions such as: the Optimisation and Operations Group of the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, (Buenos Aires, Argentina), the Urban Living Lab Center (ULLC) and the (UEMI, Potsdam, Germany) for #electricmobility projects. Centro de Modelización Matemática en Áreas Clave para el Desarrollo (MODEMAT) 🌍 Join us for more updates from our transformative journey towards creating positive change! 🌱🌐 #SustainableFreight #UrbanMobility #LogisticOptimization

Through her collaboration with NIRAS, PhD student Eva Paola Kvist Campos is shining light on this challenge through her thesis on the strategic development and implementation of mobility hubs in urban and rural areas. 🚗⚡🔋 At NIRAS, we take pride in working with students, both Masters and PhDs. Collaborating with students creates new ideas and innovation, and we enjoy building on knowledge, data and guidance available and watching students grow through the projects they’re working on. That’s why the NIRAS ALECTIA Foundation continuously supports PhD projects. 👨🎓 👩🎓 This PhD project focuses on interdisciplinary and systemic methods to develop sustainable mobility hubs (places to interchange transport and central points in urban or rural development). It looks at key strategic factors such as business models, partnerships, and sustainability actions to unveil the potential for hub development. It addresses the challenge of decarbonising the transport industry and improving sustainable travel behaviour. 🛴 NIRAS develops many projects related to hub development, with Eva’s PhD project playing an important role in staying at the forefront of industry trends while shaping new methods and tools for creating sustainable mobility strategies. 🏙️ 👉 Meet Eva and learn more about the project and her work in the video below or get to know her in this article: https://lnkd.in/gXtdHJbM #HereWeGrow #SustainableMobility #MobilityHubs
