Electric vehicles face various obstacles, including high costs, limited driving ranges, slow charging times, and inadequate charging infrastructure. People unfamiliar with EVs may doubt their cost-effectiveness and suitability for their needs. Range anxiety, the fear of not having enough range for a trip, often leads to cautious route planning and reduced use. However, a 2020 Deloitte study found that drivers only averaged 45 km per day but desired 200-400 km ranges, suggesting an overestimation of daily driving needs. Manufacturers are addressing range anxiety by increasing EV ranges, fast charging options, and advanced navigation systems that locate charging stations and optimize routes, with apps like Plugshare, Chargepoint, and Tesla's navigation system gaining popularity.
