During my training in Children's Services, more than a decade ago now, I noticed that educators-to-be learn very little about how to support children's eating development. I don't think it's a fundamental fault of the curriculum, but it does feel lacking when we're faced with mealtimes challenges (e.g. food refusal). I see the confusion amongst educators about how to handle it. So, I find it important to seek up-skilling in this area. Especially after years providing resources for early learning professionals, I'm convinced that this is the best starting point to shift confusion into confidence. There are so many opportunities to support children’s food education in the early years learning environment. And it’s up to us, educators, to spot those opportunities and make the most of them. My favourite job as a nutritionist with also ten years experience in early education is to give fellow educators and cooks deeper insight into children's nutrition and eating habits as well as practical strategies to support their eating development such as food exploration and eating habits. Eat Play Learn Nutrition offers two workshops (online and in-person): - Managing Fussy Eating in the ECEC Setting, and - Managing Allergies & Intolerances in the ECEC Setting Learn more on the website at https://lnkd.in/g3nnQ44v #ecec #earlychildhoodeducation #earlylearning #earlyyears #earlyyearseducation

Took me 10 min to establish that the statement of AHS about the food operator related to the outbreak being compliant with regulations is indeed far from full and/or accurate. Food safety is serious matter and I would say to a degree underregulated in Canada. The responsibility of this outbreak is shared between the producer and regulating body. Unfortunately, some of the victims (sadly children) will indeed have long lasting effects on their health. Often people underestimate gastrointestinal infections, but they could be a reason for serious and long term impact on your health. I’m looking forward to the publication of the last audit report AHS performed. I’m also looking into a serious report on what was the cause of the outbreak and what steps AHS and/or CFIA could have done to prevent it. A hint: police does not call you in advance to announce they will search your premises for illegal pocession of any kind. One would think that the element of surprise is what gains advantage in the process and acts as a deterrent.
