The term "regenerative agriculture" has come into vogue in recent years, and I've used it many times in Local Food Forum. But there are many farmers who have invested much effort to obtaining and maintaining the USDA Organic label, believe organic practices are better for people and the planet, and — unlike regenerative — organic is clearly defined in federal law and regulation. A campaign launched by the Organic Farming Research Foundation, under the heading of "Organic is Regenerative," indicates that the community of organic advocates is pushing back. I've found some seafood products advertised at the retail as antibiotic free, but, how can consumers truly verify these claims? As cultivated meat moves closer to commercialisation, we are seeing a worrying trend of misinformation entering the public debate. Our Policy Manager Seth Roberts fact-checks some of the often repeated false claims. Pick of the Day "Texas passed the most recent bill, signed into law by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott in May. Starting Sept. 1, cultivated products in Texas must include the term “cell-cultured,” “lab-grown” or similar wording on packaging near the name of the product, in type at least the same size as the text around it. The Texas Farm Bureau, an advocacy group of farmers and ranchers, had listed the bill as one of its legislative priorities this year." #cultivatedmeat #foodtech #alternativeproteins #unitedstates #legislation

I am very glad to join the Executive Committee of the IPIFF (International Platform of Insects for Food and Feed), our insect producers' and users’ association that have done so much these last years for the development of the European insect sector.   There is still a lot of work ahead for the next years : now that production is becoming a reality in Europe, we need a clearer and applicable regulation, for production, food and feed use, circularity including frass usage for the soils. We need also a clear view on the European market for this sustainable new source of proteins and how it takes place in our European sovereignty and in the green deal. We cannot continue to say “we need to develop more alternative sources of proteins for Europe” and continue to import massively without any environmental or regulatory constraints non sustainable sources of proteins from all over the world. I am really looking forward to work with my colleagues of the IPIFF Excom to strengthen and accelerate the development of this important sector for Europe.

Press release February 22, 2024: CHSNC (Canadian Herb, Specialty Agriculture and Natural Health Product Coalition) GACP PROGRAM IS 20 years old! In February 2024 the CHSNC(Canadian Herb, Specialty Agriculture and Natural Health Product Coalition) Good Agriculture and Collection Practices (GACP) program is officially 20 years old. Almost 4000 individuals and companies have participated in this industry-led GACP training and/or annual audits across Canada, in every province and territory except Nunavut. Canada’s GACP Program supports industry stakeholders (including over 2000 botanicals) across the whole value chain of specialty agriculture from field and forest to finished product and from wild indigenous plants to indoor growing operations to cannabis. CHSNC is the trusted source for GACP certification in Canada, providing producers, processors and manufacturers with voluntary industry recognized training and tools for managing risk and ensuring safety, quality assurance, traceability, crisis management and sustainability. The CHSNC Program provides internationally recognized, auditable and certified GACP standards for specialty agriculture. CHSNC just completed the regular 18-month GACP program review by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The CHSNC GACP program is in the midst of finalizing a mutual recognition agreement with the EU-GACP program and have a mutual recognition agreement in place with the United States American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) GACP Program. The team that helped build and implement this program was vast, from coast to coast, including the USA (American Herbal Products Association and Herb Research foundation) and the World Health Organization. Also included was guidance and support from Health Canada, Agriculture and Agrifood Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. This collaboration is the reason for CHSNC GACP success. As CHSNC celebrates these accomplishments, we also remember key team members we lost over the past few years that provided foundation, structure, and wise guidance, including Keith Hunter, Denton Hoffman, Gerald Le Gal and Al Oliver. Todd Burkdoll, Valent Field Market Development Specialist, discusses approaches for managing navel orangeworm (NOW) pressure at almond hull split including DiPel® DF Biological Insecticide.   “Putting on [DiPel] prior to hull split is absolutely essential,” Burkdoll explained regarding navel orangeworm management. “Once hull split has taken place, it’s too late. You can put it on at hull split, that’s a good thing. But I recommend putting on [DiPel] treatment before hull split, seven to 10 days, and then at the very onset of hull split.”   https://lnkd.in/gHr7UD9K
