We are thrilled to have been a sponsor for the recent 10 Mile In Their Shoes event hosted by Central Outreach and Advocacy Center! Despite the rain, our team walked the final mile in support of COAC's mission to combat homelessness. Proud to share that COAC surpassed their donation goal of $120k, making a real difference in our community.

"From the beginning, we decided the focus was about the kids. We had a critical desire to grow as a family, and we were committed to doing the work to get our kids back and keep our family together." Powerful words from the Page family, who participated in CHSW’s Parents for Parents program (P4P) to help reunite with their children. Giving back never gets old. Seeing the impact of the donations received at The Giving Cup on local nonprofits is just one reminder why I will always fight for community banking. It’s not an easy industry to navigate. We have to fight against often unfair competition, scalability of resources, a regulatory environment which too often becomes one size fits all rather than focusing on the large institutions posing the most systemic risk and so many more challenges. The ability to differentiate ourselves as a community bank and remain relevant is a topic in every boardroom, yet so often in our industry fresh ideas are met with fear of change, resulting in banks finding it easier to merge or be acquired. Even on the hardest days, I am reminded we are here for more. I look at the students and teachers receiving recognition, fire departments receiving needed gear, those with disabilities receiving needed services, and children served at North Star receiving hope. Each check represents donations from merely cups of coffee. The little things do add up…so far to over $50,000 with 💯% being returned to organizations like North Star. What we stand for and how we give back as an industry is absolutely worth the fight. 🙌🏼 #whatbankingcanbe #banklocally #whereyoubankmatters ❤️
We stopped by North Star Child Advocacy Center’s Open House to present them with $2,000 from donations received at The Giving Cup! This brings North Star to a total received of $9,505! We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with them! The Giving Cup has received over $50,000 in donations to date helping our 6 local nonprofit beneficiaries better serve our community! #WhatBankingCanBe #BankLocally #TheGivingCup

Meet Jeffrey! In his role, Jeffrey supports CASA volunteers through the entire process of advocacy including training, interviewing children and families, writing reports for the King County Superior Court, and sometimes, testifying before a judge. The focus of this work can be heavy and difficult. So, how does Jeffrey keep balanced off the clock? Scholar Practitioner: Building Collective Power through Relationships and Supporting Transformation through Innovation and Insight
This mirrors other just economy work that I have been privileged to be on the periphery of, Andrea Anderson. This call needs to not only focus on dedication of resources, but also on reframing what it looks like to work together. #BmoreInvested learned a lot about transformative funding, but also we learned about philanthropic collaborations and a little about what it takes to build those relationships and introduce new behaviors. I was just on the advisory committee and also privileged to work with other dynamic groups working towards transformation in our approach to fueling the help that is needed to reframe society, like CLLCTIVLY which focuses on Black-led transformation and Wealth Reclamation Academy of Practitioners which serves the nexus of resourcing and organizing. There is so much humble learning through action and organizing, so much courageous experimentation and audacious envisioning to actualize.
In a commentary for Philanthropy News Digest, Tides Advocacy CEO Romilda (Romy) Avila writes: "All across the country, Black abolitionists, feminists, and progressives are pushing philanthropy to reimagine what a multi-racial and reflective democracy looks like. We are calling on private foundations, community foundations, public charities, individual donors, LLCs, and donor networks to take a step forward for Black liberation." "What is critical for donors and funders to know is that because of their flexibility, 501(c)(4)s are a key strategy for Black-led movements. They keep vital community building work going year-round, but often face extreme dry spells in resources outside of tokenism and last-minute flow of resources during election season to turn out Black voters. Might we envision a radical shift where Black-led advocacy groups are on par in their funding with a 501(c)(4) giant like the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)?"
