Proper racing Yesterday was the Daytona 500 (should have been Sunday but Mother Nature had other plans) NASCAR is easily some of the best racing in the world. Dont worry, i can already hear you …….. ‘it’s boring, they are just going round in circles’ and ‘F1 is so much better’. Firstly, even F1 is going round in circles (think about it). Second, go to an F1 race, pay hundreds to sit alongside a small section of the track to see the cars for a few seconds every couple of minutes. At a stock car race, you can see the whole track no matter where you sit (and you don’t need to sell your kids to afford tickets). Finally, considering some of the consultancies you all use, going around in circles shouldn’t be something you complain about as you’ve been paying for that experience for years! Interesting fact - during the race, each driver has a team member standing at the top of the stands with a set of binoculars, talking to them constantly telling them what’s happening around them. Apple TV+ and Warner Bros have launched the first look teaser trailer for the new F1 movie, directed by Joe Kosinski (of Tron: Legacy, Oblivion, Top Gun: Maverick). This teaser premiered during the British Grand Prix Formula 1 race, with the movie set for release in the summer of 2025. This is a massive production (following Kosinski's success with Top Gun: Maverick), with reports saying the budget has risen up to $300 million. But did you know...? • The polesitter has gone on to win on 21 different occasions, more so than any other grid slot. • Having said that, pole can also prove a poisoned chalice. Rex Mays for example claimed pole four times between 1935 and 1948, but did no better than 2nd in 12 attempts. • There have only been FIVE consecutive race winners in Indy 500 history, the most recent being Hélio Castroneves in 2001 and 2002. And to-date, no driver has won the Indy 500 three times in succession. • Oh, and, good news for Scott McLaughlin!
