We've had an incredibly productive week behind the scenes; landing projects, finishing projects, admin, meetings, planning and designing, well done team! To wrap up the week we wanted to share with you a particular highlight, that follows on from a recent project we were in collaboration with regarding #hope. Dr Sarah Lewis, along with a fellow member of our Growth family, was invited to participate in a People on Probation Talk alongside Probation practitioners. Together, we delved into a range of topics surrounding growth and its significance within the criminal justice system. We had enriching discussions about our work, methodologies, and our vision for the future. Our primary focus was on exploring avenues to infuse hope into the criminal justice system and Probation, as we strongly believe that fostering shared learning, supporting growth, and instilling hope are vital elements in everyone's journey with Probation. We hope everyone has a safe and happy extended weekend, doing whatever brings them joy 💚 Dr Sarah Lewis Carianne Burr Dan Reynolds Anna Fabrikant Sid Singh Kamali Stevens (FRSA) #justice2point0 #hope #probation #productive #teamwork #growth #criminaljustice

Not convinced we scrap the standpoint of risk follows resource to working with people on probation entirely and retier using a system where reintegration follows resource. I fear this approach could be used as an argument to split services again which, as a practitioner, l would be adamantly diaposed to as this arguably further labels people in terms of their future potential. What l do agree with is the need to keep pushing the importance of the persons voice, and not just this, capturing their identity in assessment, steering sentence planning and delivery in the direction of future focused outcomes.
A big thank you to Fergus McNeill for our latest five minute reflections video, setting out advice for the delivery of high-quality probation services. Fergus covers the importance of: (i) focusing on reintegration as the primary goal (ii) recognising people in terms of their worth and potential (iii) adopting a dialogical approach. The District desires to have access to and engage in collaboration with FCPD for the purpose of creating positive and safe campuses. The purpose of this MOU is to establish principles and guidelines governing the relationship between the District and the City regarding the provision of FCPD law enforcement on District elementary and middle school campuses. The parties agree that we aim to: 1. Maintain safe, peaceful, and secure learning environments and campuses for all students and members of the community; 2. Preserve life and property in a manner which promotes community, trust, goodwill, and teamwork; 3. Develop positive relationships with all students. This particular case heard by the Teaching Regulation Agency is rightly causing a bit of a stir within the education community. It highlights the real challenges that teachers are facing and the very high standards that they are held to which might be surprising to those outside of the profession. There will obviously be a lot of context and detail that is not covered here or in the hearing outcome but there are some issues which highlight the risks that those working schools on a daily basis. Our research with Teacher Tapp earlier this year showed that 1 in 5 teachers had been the subject to an allegation by either a pupil or a parent at some point in their career. The nature of accusations like this mean that the school and trust are put into a conflicted position when trying to work through an investigation. In these instances, it is so important that those under investigation have access to high quality, expert and independent support. That is why the role of Edapt (and also teaching unions) is so important. Precise and timely advice is essential here. The fact that a teacher ended up resigning almost instantly and potentially encouraged to do so by the the trust's HR raises alarm bells. One of the reasons we started Edapt was to ensure that all teachers would be supported for cases like these and why we've continue to evolve our offering to include mental health support and also crisis communication support for our subscribers. *Hat tip to Micon Metcalfe who's tweet brought this to my initial attention and also to Teachers Talk Radio who held an interesting discussion on the topic today.
