Cannes 2024, what a ride! Other than Cannes gifting me COVID I am noting this moment in time an inspiring and educational experience! It was my second Cannes and this time I went with more wisdom, although still very overwhelming at times. I am grateful for the professional and personal connections and felt proud of the foundations I have built with my valued clients. The energy levels were high, and the buzz was real! Time is a challenge, with a million talks happening at the same time coupled with client connections, I am yet to find the perfect balance. It is no surprise that AI was a common theme, and I was super proud of what Microsoft delivered throughout the week. AI is not Creative you are, AI is your friend and as we move more into personalised experiences it will become your best friend that helps you to achieve things faster and flip your mindset to I can vs I cannot! D+I investment and platforms to raise awareness of the ongoing challenges were present with key messages across Women representation in sport, championing women in AI and driving progress against elevating more Women into positions of power and leadership! As a footballer myself kicking off my Cannes with a panel featuring Mary Earps was one of my highlights! To then read later in the week that the Denmark National Men’s team had turned down their pay increase to support equal pay for the Women’s team felt like progress! However, representation throughout the event still needs work, yes there was diversity in attendance but a bit samey in terms of voices on stage. Measurement, an ongoing healthy conversation about how we enable Advertisers to reach their consumers as we face walled gardens, consumer value exchange, advertising wastage and the ability to effectively optimise with limited data. I felt incredibly privileged to be at Cannes and appreciate the investment in me. I walk away thinking deeply about how the capital pumping through Cannes Lions can work harder to give back. Initial thoughts are social mobility and barrier to entry, so much food waste, can we find a way to safely get this to those in need and lastly can we challenge ourselves to purposefully give back to tackling our industry challenges. In summary, some highs, gratitude for the opportunity, hungry to learn more, and keen to find ways to give back. Thank you to my valued clients that took time out to meet with me whilst in Cannes, MSFT is pretty cool right now and I truly believe we are uniquely positioned to do great things and support you through the most exciting evolution of our times – AI and great partnerships!
