98.1 KHAK is back with another First Responder Friday! Today they're honoring Ben Tarvin. 👏🔥 "Ben grew up in the fire service and learned from his dad...(he) is often the first one to show up for a call and last one to go home... He truly wants what is best for the department and the patrons they serve."

Take note of how you react when caught off guard. It’s noteworthy how someone treats you when off guard but you cannot change that. The only thing we CAN do is review what we did and was it something to repeat or should we get better?

We'll keep hammering home the absolute necessity that police officers be equipped with ballistic protection that gives them the best chance of coming home at the end of the day, but what about other first responders? - As far back as 2014, the International Public Safety Association has recommended body armor be made available to firefighters and EMS personnel, and the number of departments picking up on this trend is growing. For instance, Wake County, North Carolina recently authorized the purchase of nearly $1M worth of ballistic vests and helmets for its fire and EMS teams. - It's worth noting that approximately 70% of calls that firefighters respond to comprise domestic disputes, shootings, car accidents and other medical emergencies, situations that can carry the risk of hostile gunfire. - What are your thoughts on the importance of body armor for these positions that historically weren't perceived to need ballistic protection?

Excellent news to see innovation being correctly defined, identified, evaluated and progressed . This approach also seems to align the HMICFRS with the NPCC Office of the Chief Scientific Officer definitions on innovation management including their model for coordination, tracking and evaluation. The key to success , and the hardest to achieve ,will be coordination of activity between the OCSO, The College and HMICFRS to provide forces with the right information ( ideally in one place) to improve performance.
💭 What is the difference between promising practice and innovative practice? In our police effectiveness, efficiency and legitimacy (PEEL) inspection reports, we often highlight some of the positive practice we find in police forces. ⬇️ Watch below as PEEL Portfolio Director Suzette explains more.

For all those who need clarification on terms, I color coded it for you. - This play is beautiful. Multiple steps between dribbles multiple times. Short precise steps. - Defenders that have to rely on longer strides have no chance. - But back to the topic. Steph started this play with a “hesi”. However, the hesi was created by details, just like this Orange was created by Red, Blue and Yellow. - And if you wanted to create this specific Hesi, you’d need to have knowledge and ability within those other skills in order to execute it the same way. - Don’t get caught up in the names, but in identifying the details!

The recent shooting in Maine was absolutely horrible, but it brought to light some valid points. How long does it take for evil to act! At 6:56 PM the first 911 call was received from the bowling alley. At 6:58 pm 4 plain clothes officers arrived. Those officers did not engage anyone because the crime had already been committed! This is important because so many depend on calling 911, but what happens before the call is made. That is why you should be prepared! Start your journey with us on November 11th for our next Concealed Weapons Permit Course.
