I Partner With Leadership of Privately Held Middle-Market Companies To Fill Their Accounting & Finance Teams With The Right Talent Via The BGC Search Difference | Executive Recruiter
Understanding the right move for a candidate is a top priority for me... It's the only way to ensure the correct long-term fit! "Alec broke the mold for my perception of recruiters. I had literally written all recruiters off except one and although I’m still approached daily, Alec’s initial contact was intriguing. It was for a job that I was actually interested in. It was because Alec actually took the time to look into my profile and see what would be a good fit for me and my career path. In most of my dealings with recruiters its “hey I have a job here and maybe you’ll be interested, if not that’s ok cause I’m spamming LinkedIn to get the position filled.’ Not with Alec. He took the time to understand what it would take to get me interested in an opportunity. I was really impressed with how he went about getting to know me personally as well as professionally. I ended up taking the job he had approached me with. I was in a very comfortable job with folks I loved working with, but Alec was able to find an opportunity I couldn’t refuse. If Alec approaches you it means he’s actually looked at your profile, did his due diligence and thoughtfully considered your qualifications. I was very impressed all around." - Charles A. - Cost Accounting Manager #accountingandfinance #talentacquisition #hiring

You will miss out on talent. ❌ If you. 1- Deviate from the timeline. 2- Delay feedback. 3- Throw in an extra stage. 4- Ask for comparisons. 5- Under offer. 6- Waste people’s time. To be honest you deserve it. 🙈 Once the timeline & expectations are agreed don’t move the goal posts. #recruitment #hiring #challenges #accounting #finance

Senior Audit and Accounting Leader | Compliance and Process Improvement | Healthy Workplace Advocate | Status Quo Disruptor | Dog Mom
Sometimes your biggest advocates actually may not be leadership with your direct employer. I have had multiple job offers over the years from clients I worked with. Either, I wasn’t ready to leave my job or the position wasn’t quite right, so I passed on them. And earlier this year, I was offered a financial reporting management position after helping a client with multiple deliverables for their year-end audit. It wasn’t the best fit, but it was pretty awesome to be both considered and asked. ☺️ Hopefully, your direct employer is great about internal promotions/opportunities, and saying your name in rooms you’re not in. That’s not always the case. But when you’re so good at your job that clients or customers want to steal you for themselves, you know you’re doing something right. 😁 Definitely keep an open mind. And keep networking. You never know where the next opportunity may be. 🤷🏽♀️ #corporatelife #jobopportunities #relationshipbuilding

Knowing your worth, and seeing your own value is so important. Here’s why: A few months ago, I interviewed for a Management role, the person I’d have reported to was great, I could tell this would have been a great working relationship, we were on the same page about a lot of things and he was proud of all the people on his time. The other person that sat in on the interview was HR, I could tell he was looking for a reason not to hire me, he just didn’t quite see what his colleague seen. I didn’t hear back from them, until this week. The HR person reached out and said he had a position come up and wanted to see if I would be interested. So, I said what’s the position? He said ‘it’s an Accounting Clerk role’ Now, I could have been insulted, I honestly was for a second. But then I realized, this, was not the place I was meant to work, and he was not someone I’m meant to work with. He didn’t see my skills, he didn’t see my value, he has know idea what I bring to the table. Doors close so new once’s can open. If the opportunity isn’t right for you, you won’t get it, know your worth! #careerinsights #knowyourownworth

I saw this quote today and it reminded me of interviewing. When we're interviewing, we ask a lot of questions about learning. I.e. "What was the last mistake you made at work and what did you learn from it?" and "When was the last time you did something for the first time?" We spend a lot of time on learning because it is a critical attribute in someone who's successful. In learning mode, there is no ego. In learning mode, there is innovation and adaptability. You need people on your team that are learners. #knowledge #learning #growth #recruiting #hiring #accountingcareers #hrcareers

There is a common misconception that obtaining a degree guarantees employment or job security. For entry-level candidates and recent college graduates, any experience is valuable. While securing a full-time position is ideal, starting with a short-term contract can be highly beneficial. For instance, I began my career with a one-month contract in American Eagle's finance department after completing my degree. This initial experience enabled me to quickly secure a full-time opportunity doing the same type of work at another company. Contract opportunities are excellent for gaining practical experience and establishing a foothold in an industry. Many contracts are extended or converted to full-time role based on performance, providing further stability. In a competitive job market, it is essential to recognize the value of contract roles for enhancing your resume and bridging employment gaps. For senior employees, advisory roles offer similar benefits. These positions allow seasoned professionals to leverage their expertise, provide strategic guidance, and maintain active engagement in their field. Advisory roles can lead to extended opportunities and often open doors to new professional networks. In a tight labor market, such roles are invaluable for continuing career growth and demonstrating sustained relevance and value. For those seeking employment these avenues are worth your consideration.

Where do you get your advice from? The best candidates I work with have professional ‘sponsors’ who they lean on whilst deciding whether an opportunity is the right one for them. The best CFO's I know have built up an Advisory network that means they can navigate through challenges and unfamiliar experiences with confidence. In theory it's easy to be aware of the importance of finding the right advice, but surprisingly hard to execute. Particularly if you're not from the Big 4 or a top tier consultancy where your immediate peers have moved into an array of weird and wonderful careers/roles/specialisms. And I think this is where a good Recruiter becomes very valuable. We don't just fill jobs. We're here to connect the dots in our own network to act as an extension to yours. So if you've got a project or problem and need some advice, or you’re in a new role and feeling out of your depth or conscious of your inexperience, or questioning if you're moving off-track in your own career, give me a shout. I’m not an expert in finance… but I’m one call away from a heap of people who are. #core3 #heretohelp Leo Hewett Cally-Marie Burgess Richard Bailey Bex Hall Micâ Postans Louis Cordice Harrison Robertson Lewis Bittle

As I run through my daily calls, I am noticing a trend in entry level candidates not knowing where to start or who to talk to. I am receiving question like: "Should I change my resume?" "What should I do after I apply?" "Do you have any internships?" "Should I take my experience off of LinkedIn?" "Will you find me a job or have you found me a job (3 days later)" All of this and more. Here are my two cents on entry level positions and my advice on things to do. **disclaimer - this could be different for everyone** 1. Take off anything before college that does not have to do with the positions/industry you are going into. 2. After you apply for a position make sure to follow up, after 2 weeks. Do not follow up within the first couple days. 3. You do not need a recruiter for internships (usually, recruiters are used for jobs that are hard to fill - some companies will not spend fees on people they can grab from a college job fair). 4. Revert to 1. Also, people want to see your achievement (those are key for resumes - do not write a job description on your resume/LinkedIn). Less is more when it comes to resumes and profiles. 5. Recruiters have positions they fill and candidates in their pipeline to fill new positions with. It could be 1 week to 1 years before that 1 recruiter finds you a job. There are "reverse recruiters" and those are the ones that go out and find jobs. Understand, a recruiter is a great utility to have. You should speak with as many as possible. The more you talk with, the better your chances are at finding a job (I might have a lot of people disagree with me on this because that may take money from some recruiters who are keeping you around to have when the time comes). Good recruiters are in this position to help others, not just to make a check. Find recruiters that care, that want you to succeed, and that will keep in touch with you (even after you land that dream job). Hope this helps!
