Extremely humbled to be nominated for the CyberScoop 50! Cybersecurity is an exhausting job. Just when you think everything is under control, there is another vulnerability to patch, update to deploy, or adversary scanning your perimeter. The rhythm of cybersecurity changes tempos often. In a blink, cybersecurity swings from thoughtful strategic planning to rapid incident response. The cybersecurity community works hard to create a roadmap that builds on yesterday’s investments, achieves today’s requirements, and inspires tomorrow’s technical advancements. We can’t treat cybersecurity as just a technical challenge a small team can overcome with software and hardware. It requires everyone to do their part and often organizational culture change. Successfully defending networks, systems, and data from those who wish to do harm requires trust, teamwork, and partnership. I joking/not joking talk about our value-proposition as, “without us, you are using paper and pencil to do your jobs.” We must actively grow our community. I am focused on recruiting and retaining a vibrant and diverse cybersecurity workforce. From the newest employee who decides this is their dream job to the venerable delaying retirement to pass on their wisdom, I am so thankful for those working with and for the government. I am incredibly honored to be part of this community.
