📢Exciting News! The 2024 Legislative Session in Washington State has kicked off! 🏛️
We're thrilled to share that the 2024 Session officially started on January 8th. Last year, our UW Impact advocates made a significant impact by sending almost a thousand messages to state lawmakers, advocating for students, higher education, and the University of Washington.
💜💛 Our District Dawgs and other UW Impact advocates actively engaged with elected officials, attended town halls, and rallied behind the purple and gold. Together, we achieved remarkable results, including a $150 million allocation to UW Medicine for essential safety net care, increased state support for staff compensation, and investments in high-demand degrees for Washington students.
🌟 However, the journey continues, and there's more work to be done! This session, we're calling on our community to support crucial initiatives. The UW Medicine funding is vital for sustaining critical services, and the new UW Allen Scholars Program aims to provide opportunities for Computer Science degrees to students from first-generation, low-income, and underserved communities. Additionally, the Regional Initiatives in Dentistry (RIDE) program could make a significant impact on providing dental care to underserved communities in Eastern Washington.
🌐How can YOU make a difference? Visit uwimpact.org to learn more on how to contribute to the success of these essential initiatives and create a lasting impact. Together, let's continue advocating for positive change and a brighter future!
