Chief Product Officer at LinkedIn

I’m excited to wrap up the 1st season of Building One with a special guest and friend, Gustav Söderström - Spotify’s Co-President, CPO, and CTO. There are just a handful of apps I use frequently throughout the day: LinkedIn (obviously!) and also Spotify. Whether it’s fueling my morning workout, tuning into podcasts during my commute, or playing my favorite playlists as I do the dishes, Spotify is always in the background. As a music lover, I appreciate the joy and convenience of a top-notch auditory experience wherever I am. Gustav is a product builder & visionary who led Spotify’s mobile transformation 15 years ago, and since continues to innovate in a highly competitive & challenging industry. We covered a lot in the episode, and it’s jam-packed with valuable growth-oriented lessons, such as: 💡 Breaking free from labels: designer, engineer, product manager, etc 💡 The importance of patience and talent tenure for making big, long-term bets. 💡 Why Spotify will never “Move Fast and Break Things.” 💡 The power of explaining yourself over relying on intuition. 💡 How Spotify mastered music discovery through AI and human curation. 💡 How AI will reduce the cost of creating powerful personalized applications 💡 When to leverage distribution advantages over design advantages …and so much more. I still find Spotify’s ability to create playlists off of a single song one of its best features.
