INTRODUCING OUR NEW BAGS As of 1st July 2024, we've made the switch from compostable to recyclable coffee bags. At Origin, we’re committed to making decisions that reduce the overall impact of our products. This includes ensuring accessible ways for our customers to responsibly dispose of empty coffee bags. While compostable plastics sound like the perfect solution to the problem of single-use packaging, the infrastructure for such is still in its infancy. This means there are very few processing facilities in the UK equipped to handle compostable plastics, with next to none available to the public. We didn’t feel it was right to distribute packaging that would be so complicated and difficult to dispose of, increasing the risk of our bags ending up in general waste. And so, we have made the decision to switch to recyclable plastic coffee bags.

That's the right decision IMO. What makes it even more compelling is that from the anecdotal data I've seen the carbon footprint to manufacture LDPE is a fraction of the footprint of a bio polymer, even if using 2nd gen feedstock.

Great decision Toby, but ........ of course if ever you required any information of a plant based bag, being JUTE, please do not hesitate to get in touch as we would be more than happy to have a chat. 😉

Congratulations! Completely agree on Compostable vs Recyclable. Would you be interested in having a chat about Reusable packaging? We have designed a very innovative flexible reusable bag for coffee!

These look great and we've used exactly the same logic when purchasing our bags. Hopefully it won't be too long before there is a compostable option that is supported with infrastructure. Earth pouches by Sirane are a good solution but you need to be okay with a short shelf life. Also Grounded Packaging are the best I've seen for full picture sustainability information.

Absolutely the right decision. We had the same challenge and made the same choice.

Monolayer bags are definitely the way forward and enjoyed by many of our coffee customers. From a carbon perspective they are also better for the environment from our own studies. Wishing you the best with your sustainable packaging
