The future of sales for people over 50 is either become a VAR or go teach sales.
I wish it was different but just being direct.
Over 50, is alot of early A round jobs that create one and done years. A choppy resume evolves.
What to do? Leverage your deep relationships.
You all have deep relationships over 30 yrs in sales...and those trusted relationships are worth money. Big money.
I have several tech side hustles for top reps over 50 to make big cash. Thus, stack 4 or 5 of them and open shop as a mini VAR. CTOs buy from guys they know and like and trust.
Other option is colleges all need to teach sales since sales is great ROI. Nowhere can one be 25 yrs old and 3 yrs out of college making $300k...it is tech sales.
This big cash brings a wave of young talent in so your sales prime yrs is a decade...maybe 2.
The tech world sees 50 as 100 yrs old so if you get taken out, very hard to get back in.
Most outside recruiters are hired to find top hunters age 28-45. Thus, if you are older, you have to call in some favors from those you helped along the way.
But if you got kids to feed...pound the trade shows and you have 100 inteviews w sales VPs a week. But if you go this route, you have to fake the swagger you had when making $500k...any sense of desperstion and it will be a no go.
Last, get a Rep Sheet. If you have top annual numbers and top 25%, then stand out. Sales is all about numbers. Nobody in sales can read well anyway;
