Amnah, the consortium (comprising Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Blue Power Partners, and Al Khadra) behind the Sultanate's first green hydrogen block, has announced a strategic shift: forgoing the conversion and export of green hydrogen derivatives like ammonia, Amnah will prioritize its utilization within Oman. This will involve supporting the production of green steel, along with intermediate low-carbon commodities such as Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) and Direct Reduced Iron (DRI). This shift aligns with their belief in maximizing In-Country Value (ICV) for Oman's green hydrogen future. The green steel market is booming, driven by growing demand for sustainable materials and regulations like the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. Oman's Duqm port is already attracting major steel players like Vale, Mitsui, and Vulcan Green Steel, positioning the country as a green steel hub. #GreenHydrogen #GreenSteel

Sectorial readiness key to successful green hydrogen ecosystem MUSCAT: Sectorial readiness is key to establishing a successful green hydrogen ecosystem and achieving a target of 1 million tonnes of H2 by 2030, according to Eng Salim bin Nasser al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals and Chairman of Hydrom. Speaking at a workshop held here yesterday, June 12, 2024, aimed at assessing the readiness of the green hydrogen ecosystem in the country, Al Aufi underscored the significance of identifying challenges within supporting sectors. Oman advances CO₂ pipeline for CCUS and blue hydrogen MUSCAT: In an ambitious move to meet the requirements of early adopters in carbon capture and storage (CCUS) and blue hydrogen (Blue H₂) sectors, OQ Gas Networks (OQGN) — Oman’s sole gas transmission operator and owner — is spearheading the conceptualisation of a comprehensive CO₂ (carbon dioxide) pipeline network in Oman. This initiative is a critical component of Oman’s larger strategy to align with the Oman Vision 2040 and the nation’s Net-Zero Emissions ( NZE) target by 2050. During the inaugural launch of ‘Talks with CEOs @ U Capital’, Eng Mansoor al Abdali, Chief Executive Officer of OQGN reiterated that Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MoEM) is at the helm of this extensive project, meticulously developing CCUS and Blue H₂ regulations and policies in collaboration with key stakeholders.
