Venture Capitalists come across thousands of business ideas every year. But how do they make their investment decisions? Do cognitive biases influence them, or is there something more systematic present? Jessica Livingston, a co-Founder of Y Combinator, has an expert take on this subject. According to her, the VC herd mentality is one of the dominant factors when deciding which startups to invest in. Investors often follow trends or other VCs’ opinions rather than making decisions based on their own research or data-driven intuition. I’ve long argued that doing so may expose them to reputation risk and subpar fund performance—unless it is managed adequately. In this post, I identify VC herd mentality’s advantages and disadvantages, explore where it comes from, provide advice to Founders who want to use it as an opportunity to raise funds, and offer guidance to VCs on how to manage their herd reflexes without damaging their business. In four months, my startup ZiveAI surpassed $200M+ in booked AUA of Emerging Funds. We're averaging one new emerging fund weekly and burning less than $10K monthly. Key takeaways: Fund managers care about access to LP networks, and LPs care about data that tells the GP's track record. Watching the magic happen between the two can create multiple avenues for value capture.

Thank you to Christophe de la Celle and the entire Selini team for hosting an amazing summit last week! If you didn't have the chance to attend, the summit focused on the trifecta of value alignment: What funds of funds, funds, and founders (the #3Fs?) need to make LPs happy and scale important tech. The TLDR is 1. Funds of funds find venture fund operational excellence scarce, and prefer even low-raise track records to fortify their confidence in fund managers; many believe that more hedge funds should be started, rather than venture funds. 2. Fund of funds LPs are prioritizing liquid investment strategies over locked up capital with looming geopolitical concerns in a global election year 3. Founders don't find the majority of venture funds a value add to their cap-table; where venture funds sometimes grow tiresome of the founder addiction to 'branded' funds 4. Institutional involvement in digital assets is happening - from Nomura, to SoftBank Group Corp. and many others, and the digital asset management stack is quickly evolving

Bavest, a Frankfurt/Munich-based business-to-business FinTech firm, has announced raising €1.1 million (about $1.2 million) in a pre-seed funding round, signaling strong market confidence in its innovative financial infrastructure solutions.
