Lot of people without power today as a brief but intense storm hit Houston, Texas. Straight line winds are believed to have gotten up to 100 mph. It came on fast and hard. I was watching the Timberwolves beat the Nuggets and it was hollowing and didn't think much of it. It was brief too, maybe lasting only 30 minutes with intensity. I was a little surprised to see transmission line towers knocked over because they aren't exactly sails for catching wind. Maybe, flying uprooted trees and debris took them out? San Diego Gas & Electric has added an unusual, yet simple, method to help reduce the chances of wildfire igniting when vegetation gets dry and crusty during the summer months. The utility uses a stable of about 600 goats - four herds of 150 each - to graze the non-native brush that grows along the corridors of transmission towers that carry electricity. A great boost for resiliency, worth millions: Congress sends our solar client Feed the Second Line $3.69M to make New Orleans more resilient to hurricanes.  It’s a great day when our lobbying pays off for community... with Tinice (Tee) Williams leading the way. New Orleans can expect to be without utilities for 10 days for a Cat 1 storm and up to 21 days for Cat 4.  Appropriations funding is for Feed the Second Line’s project to Get Lit, Stay Lit and install microgrids on 67 restaurants in 2024, empowering them to serve as cooling centers and provide food and resources during those first, crucial days after major storms.  #greenenergy #greenenergysolutions #GetLitStayLit #solar #solarpower #resiliency #feedthesecondline
