Doesn’t it just rehash history already covered in Samuel and Kings? In this unit we’ll read Chronicles as a message to its audiences, rebuilding their lives after the Babylonian exile. Perhaps despondent and disillusioned, we’ll explore how the Chronicler uses earlier biblical texts to craft a message for these audiences. Through the intertwined themes of kingdom and temple, worship and the people of God, we'll uncover similarities and differences as we consider the relevance of this book for us as Christians today.

An image of the words of consecration as they are written in the missal. Note that the words of consecration are all capitalised. For me actions speak louder than opinions. Many different theologians can have many different opinions about which words in the consecration are the only words necessary to be said for a valid Mass. The Church however, in her action of printing these words all equally in capital letters emphasises that they are all necessary. Why would she come to this conclusion? One reason may be that the council of Trent, Denzinger and the instruction in the Pope Paul missal about this question write and 'copy, paste' the following: "This is my Body." "This is the chalice of my Blood ... " Please note, see, and think about why there are three points in the quotation marks after the word Blood. I conclude that the Church in her wisdom, discerns that all the words after the word 'blood' are necessary for an indefective form which brings about a valid mass if said with correct matter and intention. Individual theologians debate this, BUT the Church holds firm in her actions. Why? Possibly because the Words of Jesus/God are creative, in other words they act to bring about a different state. It's not that some of His words act, and others don't. All His words have creative power, so all are equally important. I am more than happy to debate this point with anyone else in this post. Please, don't go off topic and try to debate this point in a different post.
