An interesting announcement from Klarna. They’ve been able to use Open AI GPT model to automate customer support interactions for the work equivalent of 700 full-time agents, reportedly saving the company $40 million in 2024 alone.   I continue to think that automation of customer support is one of the easiest “Generative AI” value creation levers a company can do today. Of course, Klarna is somewhat uniquely suited to benefit from this particular solution - it has a huge scale of customer support interactions and most of those are done via chat (the easiest channel to automate). However, in my interactions with much smaller companies, I observe them effectively embracing Generative AI in customer support and achieving comparable outcomes, scaled to their size. The best part is that this doesn't require sophisticated technology or extensive preparation.
