If pressed to name the top restaurant chains in America, your mind might zoom straight to fast food joints: McDonald's’s, Chick-fil-A Restaurants, Burger King. And while fast food does dominate the list of the country’s top 10 most profitable restaurants, just outside those rankings sit a couple full-service sit-down restaurants whose annual sales sit comfortably in the billions. One is Olive Garden, with 908 restaurants and earnings totaling $5.1 billion in 2023. The other, perhaps unexpectedly, is Texas Roadhouse, the 19th biggest restaurant chain in America with $4.8 billion in sales last year. https://lnkd.in/gGxB4aST

Last week we released the latest edition of our quarterly Restaurant Industry Report, which uses data across Square’s food and beverage sellers to examine dining trends and shifts in both consumer spending and restaurant wages. Here’s a look at a few takeaways in the Report: 1️⃣ Breakfast skews towards delivery While delivery rates overall have seen a decrease following COVID highs, when comparing the share of delivery versus dine-in rates, consumers opted more for delivery when ordering breakfast compared to any other mealtime as of December 2023. 2️⃣ Restaurants grow with financing Restaurants need access to capital for a number of reasons, whether it’s to open another location, grow certain areas of operation, or invest in new equipment.
