The LGBTQ+ Corporate Directors Canada Association is focused on bringing diversity to Canada’s Corporate Governance World through an LGBTQ+ presence. The Association is the first and only organization of its kind to provide services, support and networking on behalf of LGBTQ+ existing and aspiring Board Members. The Association’s Members include top-tier LGBTQ+ professionals with the skills and expertise to make a difference in the Boardroom.
Authors Jeremy McClane and Darren Rosenblum publish their research on LGBTQ+ representation in the corporate boardroom in the Winter 2023 issue of the Seattle University Law Review.
In observing the current movement toward board diversification, the article examines both the normative and instrumental bases for LGBTQ+ inclusion in board diversity initiatives, articulating unspoken assumptions and linking LGBTQ+ people to the broader inclusion effort. In so doing, it begins to surface the unique issues LGBTQ+ inclusion raises, understanding of which is critical to making any such policies work.

The Human Rights Campaign continues to advance and advocate for LGBTQ+ rights in this report that explores current leading practices on LGBTQ+ corporate citizenship. This is a "whole-of-business concept, taking into consideration what companies do internally as well as how they use their power, influence, budgets and business activities for good." What can you and your company do to drive inclusion for LGBTQ+ people across all facets of society?
In this video, Gus Raymond shares how to ensure that support movements for trans and LGBTQ+ individuals can avoid being performative and instead, dive deep beyond the merely affirmative to a richer state of inclusivity:
👉 Great practical examples and tips by Human Rights Campaign for people working in corporations to continue #walkingthetalk of LGBTQ+ 🏳️🌈 #inclusivity 🫂

🚨Always remember the power you have within you to generate positive change🚨
Our LGBTQ+ community continues to face profound inequality, a reality recently underscored by the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) issuance of a National State of Emergency for all LGBTQ+ Americans. This proclamation serves as a sobering reminder that our fight for genuine equality is far from over.

It was a pleasure to speak at Kearney for their LGBTQ+ History Month event. I enjoyed bringing insights from the research in my new book Queering Normativity and South Asian Public Culture: Wrong Readings Only (2023) to the conversation.
Nipun opened by asking about why LGBTQ+ histories are important today especially as we celebrate Pride widely in the workplace and in the UK. It was helpful provocative reminder to reflect on the difficult journey up to this point, but also the long path forward still.
While the UK has in the recent past changed quite a few of its laws to make the lives of LGBTQ+ people more equitable, there is still so much work to do here to destigmatize people's lives, to build equitable and inclusive policies drawing on the laws, to resist stereotypes and cultural biases deployed to create divisions between people, especially in relation to women and trans* people, and to continue to work together towards equity for all.
It is also important to place LGBTQ+ histories within the context of people's social and cultural background. Many countries are on their own journey in the struggle against the colonial legacy of British laws that remain in their constitutions and have become a part of the cultural fear of differences.
LGBTQ+ histories reminds us of the many people who have struggled before us to build a more just place to be ourselves. But these histories give us a chance to place our lives, and the freedoms we enjoy, in context. It marks our responsibility to future generations and the work we still have to do to continue building towards a future where people are free to be in the wholeness of their humanity.
My thanks to the team at Kearney for valuing the importance of continuous learning, engaging across so many people's knowledge and expertise, and for the work done by many to set up the conversation. I enjoyed learning from Ethan, Neil, and Nipun. Please continue having these excellent conversations!

As part of UK LGBTQ+ History Month in February, our London office hosted a lunch and learn with a panel discussion led by our Proud Network. Reflecting on the event, Global and European DEI Director Neil Griffiths emphasized the importance of reflecting on progress and addressing ongoing challenges for full LGBTQ+ community inclusion at Kearney.
With this year’s focus on the legacy of systematic LGBTQ+ exclusion and the ongoing impact it has, Neil shared that “what we might call history in the UK is actually the very recent past and, in many cases for our LGBTQ+ community members, even very much the present. Remembering that and hearing experiences and perspectives from our peers is a strong reminder of why we need to strive for a more inclusive world—perhaps now more than ever before.” #KearneyProudNetwork

Discussions on diversity in corporate boardrooms are expanding beyond focusing solely on women. Regulators are considering broader disclosure regulations to include the LGBTQ+ community.
Read the latest op-ed from Sarah Kaplan, ICD.D on the research findings (with support from LGBTQ Corporate Directors Canada) which examined LGBTQ+ representation on TSX-listed boards from 2015 to 2022.
👉 They found only 9 board members openly identifying as LGBTQ+ in 2022, comprising 0.15% of all board members that year.
❓ This stark underrepresentation raises important questions about barriers to disclosure and access to board positions for LGBTQ+ individuals.
🔎 These findings highlight the need for organizations to improve recruitment, retention, and promotion processes to foster greater #LGBTQ+ representation at all levels, including #CorporateBoards.

🌈 Pride month is fast approaching!
💡 At least 4.4% of the population are LGBTQ+, but only 0.15% of Board Directors on the TSX have publicly identified as members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Happy pride month! 🏳️🌈❤️
As we step into this vibrant month of celebration, I want to take a moment to reflect on the importance of visibility for queer individuals in the office space. As a proud lesbian and poly person, I understand the profound impact that being seen and acknowledged can have on an individual. It's about more than just being present; it's about creating a space where we can all feel safe, supported, and free to express our true selves without fear.
While we celebrate Pride, we must also confront the rise in hate crimes in Norway (as well as the rest of the world), a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle for true equality. Let's stand united against such hate and advocate for a society where love and acceptance prevail.
Visibility matters. It paves the way for understanding, acceptance, and change. This Pride, let's commit to fostering an environment where every voice is heard, every identity is respected, and every person can thrive. Here's to celebrating our unique journeys and the collective progress we've made.

Wishing everyone a Happy Pride Month!
“Here at Crayon, we support the LGBTQ+ community as a proud ally and inclusive company,” said CEO Melissa Mulholland. “Our focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion helps us embrace what makes us strong—our differences. Pride isn’t just a time to show support, but also a time to celebrate the accomplishments and acknowledge the challenges of LGBTQ+ people throughout history. Diversity comes in many forms, and it is essential that we recognize people’s different perspectives because they enrich our own experiences.”

I had the pleasure of speaking on a panel hosted by our LGBTQ+ employee resource group, The LGBTQ+ Alliance, yesterday. We shared insights on the successes and challenges of being authentically LGBTQ+ in the workplace.
I’m so grateful to have been given a platform to share my passion for creating inclusive environments. Not only did it provide an opportunity to create an inclusive workplace for LGBTQ+ professionals, but I had a blast connecting with colleagues Matthew Hintz, Sarah Cole, Zachary L. Berliner, and Lauren Wittenberg!
Many thanks to the wonderful Shane Diamond for moderating and Angela Gehring for her introduction!
